It’s been six long months since we first saw the Vibram Five Fingers Trek Sport — and the blue and grey Vibram Five Fingers Bikila showcased at the winter Outdoor Retailer — at last they are here. Yep, it’s time to pick up “just one more” pair of VFFs*! And if you just got the KSO Remix or the Smartwool Classics (Released last week) or the Colorway Sprints for women released Monday, I’ve got two words for ya: Ramen Noodles**.

On buying the new Trek Sport Five Fingers and Blue Bikilas:

The Five Fingers Bikila in blueCitySports has them new in sizes 40 – 47 for just under $100.

If you’re not yet familiar with the Vibram Five Fingers Bikila, it’s the first “barefoot” shoe designed specifically for running on “unnatural” surfaces. As far as the Bikila’s “barefoot feel” is concerned, it is slightly less sensational at the forefoot than the KSO (which is slightly less sensational than the Classic or Sprint). That said, the Bikila allows for a natural gait with a forefoot strike and has fewer inward facing seams, lending it a very comfortable feel against your bare foot. It’s also perhaps the most stylish VFF to date.

Surf over to our Five Fingers Bikila product listing page and then read up on the latest reviews and user stories or just go straight to City Sports and grab a pair.

The Five Fingers Trek Sport — It’s brand new to the Vibram Five Fingers line and CitySports has them now in black, sizes 40 – 47, also for about $100 (Coupon code BIRTHDAY for free shipping!).

Though I’ve not yet put my feet in a pair, the Trek Sport looks to be a mash-up of the beloved Vibram KSO and the kangaroo leather KSO Trek (review). That said, the Trek Sport looks like considerably more “put together” than the KSO as it features an added bit of fabric at the Achilles tendon, reflective material on the straps, TPU toe protection, and, of course, the beefier made-for-trails Trek sole. Perhaps the most innovative feature of the Trek Sport is that the upper is made of some coconut and “active carbon” fabric. It’s also vegan friendly.

For the sake of completeness, here is the Trek Sport product information (The midsole/outsole is the same as the KSO Trek):

“Building on the success and versatility of the KSO and KSO Trek, Vibram FiveFingers presents the Trek Sport. Vibram’s TrekSport offers a 4mm EVA midsole for plating protection and a lightly cleated 4mm Vibram performance rubber outsole for added traction on a variety of surfaces. The Coconut Active Carbon upper offers natural breathability and abrasion resistance for maximum performance during your outdoor and athletic pursuits.

“TrekSport is best for: Light Trekking, Trail and Road Running, Cross Training, CrossFit, Walking and Travel.”

Like all other closed top Vibram Five Fingers, the Trek Sport should size similarly to the KSO. Go get’em at City Sports!

Though I expect there the other colors and women’s sizes will show up soon, I think it’s fitting that they first released the Trek Sport in it’s full-on black beauty as black KSO Five Fingers are the reigning champion color combination: get your ninja on!

Good luck!

* When is “one more” ever only one more? If you’re expecting some headwinds on convincing your significant other that you need to get another pair of Five Fingers (Trust me when I say you can never have enough), consider these excuses: “One word: ninja.” … “No, these have the extra grippies on the bottom for trails and reflective spots to keep me safe!” … “When you think about it, I’m actually saving money by getting these instead of the leather KSO Treks.” … “They’re cheaper than that Ferrari I wanted!” … Since these excuses are, in fact, terrible, perhaps you best simply consider that it’s “Better to ask forgiveness than permission” — not that we advocate that sorta behavior!

** Seriously folks, be mindful of your purchases.

Are you serious?! Last week, I got the ladies blue Bikilas(4th pai VFF). Monday, my KSO remixes arrived(5th pair VFF). Now, the Trek Sport is out already! I was hoping these things would come out in another month or two. I told my SO that I was done for a couple months. Thank goodness we were the same size shoes and I can “pretend” I am buying these for him 😉

He is 58 and have a secret love for my VFFs. I catch him in them sometimes and he ran the VFF 5k in Johnson City, TN with me in one pair of my VFF. I am close to getting him out of the closet. When he saw my KSO Remixes, he jumped to try them on….lol.

What sizes will be available for the women’s Trek Sport? The Bikilas initially came in size 36 but mine were defective and had to be returned. Now all the releases for the Bikila have been 37 and up. I hope more Bikila size 36 will be released along with the Trek Sport.

@Chanel,

At least your SO is only into wearing your shoes! It could be worse 🙂

@Benny,

Nice! Look forward to checking it out.

@Cathy,

I really can’t say — I know the sizes at the top and bottom of the range are always produced in lower quantity. Just have to stay tuned!

AWESOME!! I just sent my leather Trek’s back for warranty replacement because the toes blew out… This announcement couldn’t have been better timed!! I snatched up a pair KSO Trek SPORT’s this morning, and they’re in the mail! YEEHA!!

I’m jealous. I’m STILL waiting for the Bikilas I’ve pre-ordered ages ago. And I’d really like to try the Smartwools as well as the KSO Remix..
When it comes to VFFs, it suck to be located in Europe. (Well, with the Exception of the Speeds. Those are awesome).

Does anyone know if the Trek sport or Bikila will ever be offered in the lower sizes for men? I have a size 39, fairly wide foot, so the women’s sizes are the proper length, but not the right width.

Would the 40 be too much wiggle room for these VFFs? I’m guessing the Smart wool Classics would be fine in the 40 since folks have been saying to size up on them, but since I would use the Bikila and Trek for road and trail running I don’t know if a loose fit would be the smart option.

I saw a size 44 Trek Sport the other day at my local retailer and man does it look sexy…

🙁 Unfortunately not in size 48… I am just a bit tight for 47 but enough to feel uncomfortable… I know I am always weepin about this, but it is frustrating for me. I just can get black or grey KSO and black classics in that size. Hope they extend the sizes for some more colours-models!.

Two days ago I got a pair of smartwool classics, size 40.
They are nice tight and snug. The first 2 days experiencing sore Achilles tendons.
Today I got a pair of Bikila’s size 38, fits like ready to take off!
My 2 years old KSO’s were a size 39.
Just to give some information about same pair of feet but total different sizes.
Thank you for all the (helpful) comments.

40-47?! This is one of those times I hate the fact I have KSO size 39 feet! I’ve been waitin and praying for sport treks as soon I heard about them

And I just bought the KSO Trek two weeks ago! (which I absolutely love btw).

That new Trek Sport looks awesome, I’m gonna go broke buying all these shoes.

Do you know if the Trek Sport is water resistant btw? I like how the orginal Trek is water resistant, I hiked about 4 miles in the rain with them last week and not a single drop got inside.

Maybe before they putting out new models they should get the Bikilas right. We are getting about 1/3 of them returned to our store for defects. Mostly poor glueing of the upper to the Vibram

Oh boy…..just found out about these…..make these pair number 6! They look too good to pass up and I am hoping these will be better for me to run in then my KSOs have been. Looking forward to getting them from City Sports very soon!!

The Trek Sports make 5 pairs of VFF’s, but damn they are sexy. The Treks are so hot in Houston summer, the Trek Sports are what I have been waiting for.

Hey all,
I can hardly wait to read up on some KSO Trek Sport reviews. I had originally purchased the KSO but then heard about the sports coming out and have since returned them. Now that they are out I would really like to see a comparison of the KSO vs KSO Sport.

Does anyone know the difference between the midsole depth on these two shoes?

To the veterans on this site, which shoe would you recommend for everyday wear and jogging on asphalt?

Which shoe has the better build quality in comparison.

It seems like everyone talks about City Sports here, but does anyone know of a genuine Canadian retailer I can purchase from?

Ordered my Trek Sport from City Sports on Sunday (yesterday) and they shipped today from MA. Should receive them on Thursday. This is my 1st pair of VFF. Was gonna get the KSO Trek, but then saw these and think they will be a better fit for running, etc.

So can anybody comment on the comfort of the Trek Sports? Do they feel like the KSOs on the insides, i.e. not totally smooth. Or are they (hopefully) more refined like the Bikilas?

Vibram did such a good job with the insides of the Bikila. I would love to see that level of attention to detail carry over into other models.

Also, bring on the all black Bikila!!

Just got in the Trek Sports. They feel more like a KSO than the Trek. They have a removable strap, and the Achilles Pad is a nice touch. These could become my go to VFF’s soon. I will take them on a trail run Friday to see how they feel.

Can’t believe I’m saying this, but the Trek Sport is actually quite disappointing. The looks are great, but the interior of the shoe just does not seem to be up to the quality of previous editions. I have been running regularly in VFFs for years now, and I have never ha a problem with blistering save for a few cases where it was my own fault. But, the Trek Sport was like a cheese grater, particularly to my toes and sesamoid area. The fit is fine, my form is fine, the conditions I ran in were fine, but the shoe is just disappointing me at every turn.
