Dr. Jawa Runs his First Marathon

Dr. Jawa and his wife
Dr. Jawa and his wife running the St. George Marathon.

Dr. Jawa, is a long time reader and contributor to our blog. You may remember Dr. Jawa doing headstands, teaching in black KSO VFFs, running a half marathon in Las Vegas, or on vacation in Jamaica. Dr. Jawa recently continued his adventures in Vibram Five Fingers by completing his first marathon at the St. George marathon wearing his Vibram Five Fingers Bikilas. Read about this and his other recent escapades after the jump!

Almost one year after I started using Vibrams, I completed my first marathon on Oct. 2, 2010 at St. George, Utah. My original KSOs are worn out, so I bought new Bikilas just last month. It took 4 hours 10 minutes for me to complete. I already signed up for my second marathon, the Malibu Marathon, next month.

As I was running, I was disappointed that I didn't see anyone wearing Vibrams. Then at mile 10, someone tapped on my shoulder and gave a big smile. His name is Isaiah and he was wasw wearing Sprints. We chatted for about a mile. He is a fan of BirthdayShoes.com and follows the website regularly. He was new to Vibrams and he was excited to see someone else in Vibrams.

My wife also ran with me. My goofy shoes attracted a lot of attention and I am only happy. Above are a few pictures, one of them in our characteristic Vibram stance.

Dr. Jawa models his new suit tailored to be worn with his Black KSOs.

BTW, I bought some new suits and made sure the pants are fitted for Vibrams. Is there anyone wearing full suit and doing business in Vibram? I wore them to a wedding recently.

Dr. Jawa and others

I thought this was cool. We had 5K run scholarship program in memory of a student, Matt, today (10/16/10). About 500 people ran. I was excited to see two other runners in their Vibram KSOs. I wore my Bikilas and clocked in at 23:07, running at pace of 7:25 mph. We took a few photos together and thought we would share them with you.

Thanks, Dr. Jawa, for keeping us up to date with all your latest Five Fingers activites and congratulations on running your marathon in an amazing time!!

About the Author — Hailing from College Station, Texas (Home to Texas A&M!), I grew up running cross country. Believe it or not, I gave Justin the name for this site back in early 2009 but I didn't jump on the toe shoes bandwagon until a year later.

Per FTC regulation, it should be assumed that products reviewed on BirthdayShoes were provided to the blogger(s) for free or at discounted cost. Though this is certainly not always the case, we'd rather be in compliance with FTC rules & regulations governing bloggers and product reviews under the assumed "most biased" letter of the law. That said, if it's not immediately obvious, this site is a fan site for minimalist footwear such as Vibram Five Fingers, which is to say that there is a stated bias in favor of these products. Despite our stated bias, between the hundreds of user-submitted stories, the thousands of forum posts (both positive and negative, warts and all!), and the in-depth resources and guides, we do our best to provide in depth information on all products reviewed. In the end, though we strive to be a helpful resource and believe in integrity and honesty, we expect you to do your part — reading the research and making educated decisions (Read: take responsibility for your actions!). We have also passed on reviewing products (not VFFs per se) that were provided to us for free but did not "cut the mustard." If you have any questions about this disclaimer, please contact us!
