So was out running in zero degree weather (celcius) with a steady rain and slush all over the trails and roads. Around 5 km I came across a person walking to school and got the " You are more dedicated then me" comment, but about 500 meters later I saw another runner coming in the opposite direction. We both looked at each other smiled and nodded, best feeling I have had in long time. No words, no over the top gestures just a smile and nod to say "Yeah we are both nuts but we love running". Got me through the remainder of my run, soaked to the bone and little cold, but would do it again and agian.

Way to go BigMan! I had a very similar run last week. My feet were wet and cold in my Bikilas, but it was still fun!

I agree, feels quite heroic, I did 7 km last night at -10 C, in my VB Evo II, and it was great... did not meet other runners as heroic as me though!  Roll Eyes

You are totally right. It feels great to get out there in less than perfect conditions. Also cool when you give a 'high five' nod to other runners.

I did my coldest weather run the other day. I did a leisurely 5k at -31C! I just dressed for it, threw my flows and injinjis on, and layered heavily. I was only cold around the 6 minute mark for a minute or two, then my core warmed up and I was almost too warm for the rest of the run. It was awesome to be out and almost not feel the cold even though it was frosty. I didn't see any other crazy people running, but i passed a number of snowsuit-clad people who were likely questioning my sanity.

Good job to everyone who is getting out there and sticking it to old man winter!

My folks think I am crazy for going out in 30F.

Yeti, I would call you absolutely nuts but I believe you are my complete opposite. When it comes to sports and running around, I am one of those people that LOVE 90-95F.  I live on Long Island so it's normally 95% humidity but it doesn't bother me in the slightest.  I get a good sweat going and I love breathing in the hot air, really lets me feel like I can pull deep breaths and just keep going.

Wow, Yeti, that's crazy cold! I've run in the teens and into single digits before (farenheit) but not below zero.

You really are a  Yeti!  Grin

Here, here!  You don't even realize that you can't feel your toes until you get back inside and they start warming up, right?

i'm not a winter runner yet, but i am a big wintertime walker. I love getting those little nods from people who "get it." Sadly, there are't many people in my town who walk as much as me, and i've kinda gained a reputation for being "that crazy guy who walks all the time." Still, every so often -- especially when the temps are in the -20 F -- someone thinks i need a ride. I just give'em a goofy, face-half-frozen, smile and say i'm just exercising.

anyway, *nods* keep it up!

I've been running during winter since I got my VFF Flows three years ago. I've ran in temps as low as 8 F and never had a problem as long as I warmed up inside the house first. What cracks me up is the look on peoples faces when they see my foot prints in the snow as they walk their dogs. They are probably thinking WTF?
