I have recently acquired some cross-country skis, for which I must purchase some boots. I am excited to start skiing, but I am nervous about jamming my feet into traditionally shaped footwear. I have spoken to a couple of salespeople, but the concept of minimalism seems quite foreign to them. Does anyone have any suggestions or hints that might help me find ski boots that aren't going to punish my toes?

Thank you.

I think ski boots, like bicycle shoes, don't really go together with minimalist footwear.  Ski boots and bicycle shoes both need hard plastic shells or soles in order to perform they way they're intended.  That is, unless you're just referring to the shape of the toe box with plenty of room in that area.  Maybe you could just try to find the widest pair of boots you can in the length that you need.

Somethings ARE unnatural ... like skiing and biking.  That doesn't mean don't do it. Just don't expect that it be pleasant on all parts of your body.

Other than running sports and soccer, the truth is, most sports are not minimalist friendly.  There are too many other factors involved and you are already in a reduced market so it is not profitable to cater to the minimalist which is an even smaller market.

I still play softball and other sports and I put my foot in traditional footwear.  You are not living in these other kinds of shoes so using them from time to time is not going to be a big deal.
