Edit:

Incredible stain remover shouldn't come in contact with skin, so I can no longer reccomend it to clean VFFs. Sorry, I shoud have read the whole label before posting.

Use efferdent denture tablets and have minty clean vffs.  Grin

Its always good to have another weapon against the battle of stink. I understand what you're saying about many cleaners leaving behind their own scent. The mixture of stink and chemical odor can be pretty bad. The one product that has worked really well for me is Efferdent Plus denture cleaning tablets. I throw one in each shoe and let them soak in warm for 2 hours. The one thing I have to do is rinse them really well, otherwise they will have a slight scent of Listrine and mint.

Hawkeye - have you tried that product called Bac-Out (posted in the sticky funk thread).  I ask b/c I eventually plan on trying it, but if you've already done so I won't bother.

I'll be interested to read how this cleaner holds up over the long term - ie length of time before funk returns, any unknown issues that might arrive, etc.

Edit: I haven't tried bac out. I did try mirazyme (A enzymatic cleaner for wet suits etc.), which doesn't work.

Regular Efferdent has worked for me. I haven't had more than two test trials with it, but I'll try the two hour soak instead of the 15 minute soak to see if it makes a difference. The 15 minutes made a big enough difference to me that I thought it was the 'cat's meow,' but my pregnant wife was still revolted by the smell  Wink I am also trying a spray called 'No More Stinky Feet' which seems to work as a good between wash product. A couple sprays and quick dry eliminates much of the odor.

i've just tried the denture tablet method (but with own-brand extra strength ones) - they're still drying but they smell as fresh as they ever have! good tip.

Wow.  I haven't experienced "the funk" yet, but that Incredible! stuff sounds amazing.

Well, the funk is back after one day's use. Also my feet are a little itchy, maybe because of the dog shampoo I use on my dog or because the Incredible stain remover is a skin irritant.   :-(

Note to self: read all the label before using said product. Big fail on my part. To be honest my feet were fine till I bathed my dog in the tub.

I'm trying the efferedent next.

I tried Polident last night. 2 hour soak and good scrubbing with an "old" toothbrush. Unfortunately, my my VFFs were still wet this morning so I'm stuck in running shoes today. They did have a nice minty smell to them after the cleaning. I'll see how they are tonight when I get home.

Sorry to hear about the fail on the Incredible stuff Hawkeye. Atleast it's good for getting stains out of other stuff.

I found that sending my KSOs through the spin cycle in the washing machine and laying them on the air vents (which kick on at 5 am) had them dry as a bone by morning.

My Sprints are currently receiving the spa treatment....Efferdent bath in a warm water.

For the love of humanity and all that is sacred and good, I pray the foul stench will be exorcised from my VFFs.

I soak mine in cold water with vinegar for 30 mins. Then, I throw them in the washing machine only to spin out the excess water. Then, lay them out to dry. 2-3 times per week works fine.

I've been wiping my feet down with Wet-Ones" antibacterial wipes before putting them on if not wearing socks.  It's worked amazingly well.  Obviously, wash your VFFs before for this to work. (I got this tip from member "grunt" in the sticky tread)
