so after about a month solid of running in VFF's I decided to try a run in my old nike's tonight just to see what's changed. The first thing I noticed was my gait has changed and even in the nikes I landed on my forefoot now with my foot under my body instead of out in front of me. The second thing and this was the biggy was that the nikes made my legs hurt now. Like I was in some real pain after the run.

On a side note, my lower back had been hurting while running in my VFF's and it didn't hurt in my Nike's, but this could've been due to the fact I actually decided to stretch it before this run.

anyone else tried going back to shoes and experience pain from it?

I didn't go running this weekend, but I did spend it "dumbfooting" as I had to attend a 50s themed party and my VFFs were a no go. I spent 4 hours on my feet in a pair of chuck's and I felt miserable. As soon as we got back to the car to go home I removed my shoes and drove home barefooted. Unfortunately I had to go sans-VFF today as I put both pair in the wash at the same time (note to future self: don't do that again). I tried to go barefoot as much as possible, but I made a few trips out to various stores in my flip flops and even they were no fun. Now I can see just how much my toes try to hold on to the strap and how much I want to heel-strike to keep them from falling off. Again, definitely not comfortable.

yeah, i wear flips on occasion (like church and what not) and they hurt my feet as well. I don't notice my toes holding them on, but i notice have to change my gait when i use them and my foot feeling too cushioned.

If you can wear flip flops to church, certain you should be able to wear VFFs, right?

Whenever my VFFs are drying, I go barefoot. Even to the shops and uni, it really shapes up your technique. Of course it depends how socially daring you feel, I think I get more funny looks going bare foot than VFF. Cheesy

I haven't run once my Brooks Trance 8s since I started barefooting/VFFing about 6 weeks ago. Just can't bear the thought.
