Hello!

I'm getting a lot of controversy on this topic, so I thought I'd make a forum dedicated to it. To put it simply can you run in speeds?

Think about it, the Speeds have the exact same (or  incredibly close) bottom as the Bikila's and the Bikila's are the best for running! So why can't you run in Speeds? I'll admit you don't want to run 8 miles in Speeds, but you can use them for a 1-3 mile jog on the road right?

Yes, you can.  The speeds are built on the Bikila platform.  In the US they are advertised as a casual shoe, in Europe they are advertised as a running shoe.  There is nothing wrong with running in them.

US Site:
http://www.vibramfivefingers.com/products/Five-Fingers-Speed-Mens.htm

"casual wearer, after sport, travel"

European Site:
http://www.vibramfivefingers.it/product_details.aspx?model=SPEED

"walking, distributes forefoot impact, running, casual"

There is no reason you couldn't run in them.  They are comfortable, they breathe, and they are light.

Yeah, I don't know why there would be controversy.  They were originally made for running ... kind of a variation on the Bikila.  I'm guessing that Vibram threw  those "casual" and "after sport" tags on the description as an after thought when they realized than many people preferred them for casual wear.

What`s more, I know the speed was pre-tested by a known runner here in The Netherlands before release, he must have been contacted by Vibram, which shows at least their original intent. The name of course might be an indication as well.

The Speeds are just as good for running as any other shoe on the Bikila platform. The thing about the Speeds is that many people prefer to wear them as a casual shoe because of how good many people think they look.
