I've ready the often humorous posts on vff stank, but I have a few questions depside loads of good tips.

Up to now I've been wearing my vff's with injinji's because it has been cool at the times I run and I liked the feel of them with socks.  It's now warmer, and I've also discovered that the sometimes tight right foot vff likes it better sockless, so I've been running and walking with my kso and bikila without socks.  I've always used some gold bond powder every few uses so I've been lucky to avoid any stink.

I would like to continue avoiding the stink, and was wondering:

- if I used a powder, like gold bond, every use (or two) when using them without socks would I avoid the stink (my feet are generally not stinky to begin with)...and would this be the only treatment required?
- I alternate by vff's, but assuming if I wear a pair as follows, how frequently should I wash them in the washing machine, or soak them in soap/vinegar (in one week, I'll run 3 x 1hr, and wear walking around maybe 10-20 hours)

Thanks.

Just throw them in the washer once a week and let them air dry.

Since everyone is different and generates a different amount of sweat, dead skin cells, etc. there really is no magic number regarding washing your VFFs.  When they stink, wash them.  If you are trying to avoid much of a stink altogether, then was them on a regular regimen like cincodeos suggested.  I have several pairs, so I can rotate them enough to go weeks between washings. If you want to wash less frequently, buy more shoes!

Just wash when they stink? I found spraying mine with the hose first to get some good pressure helps then I toss them in the washing machine. But I also am not a runner mine are for casual use but we are in Texas and its crazy hot.

I haven't washed mine in ages (a month or two) and they smell fine. The key is wiping down your feet and wearing Injinjis.  Smiley

If your feet are dirty and you know it, wash them asap to prevent bacteria from breeding.

If you wash them make sure to thoroughly scrub them by hand (prewash) if you use a washing machine. The washing machine only has the advantage of cycling water more than handwash.

Drying should be in UV (sunlight) not in the machine. They explicitly say to air dry. I suspect it is because of the glue they use (the sole may separate from the upper or footbed). Drying int he dryer would result in possible shrinkage.
