I thought it would be fun to see what distances, and places people run in their VFFs. I’ll start by posting my old standby 5K/3.1 mile neighborhood run. I’ve ran this route hundreds of times. It is almost the same route that is used by the annual neighborhood swim team 5K fund raiser. As it can be seen by the Green line, I live in a very hilly addition. There is 90 feet of peak elevation change, but it is up and down the whole way. Even if you run this slow, it still feels like an interval training run. Add that with lots of ice still on the road and sitting on the couch watching too much football and you get a pretty good heart rate going. This was my first serious run in about 6 weeks. Oh how the cardio disappears so quickly! Snow go away so I can run more!

I'll post my GPS info on Great Aloha Run when I get back from Hawaii next week. It'll be my first VFF run, so I'm excited to see the results.

Wow, jeepman, is your heartrate really that high? Geez, if mine gets over 170, I start feeling dizzy. and here's a pic of my favorite route. I'm still trying to work on more distance and speed.

jeepman, you should try a progam called sportTracks. It is free and it is alot better than garmin training centre.

@jcarneytx Nice running route there. This year I'm going to do some serious trail hunting and find more cool places to run. Yep, that is how high my heart rate was on that run. This is typical for me after taking the last 6 weeks or so off. Winter is a hard time for me to keep up on my running. There is so much snow and ice it makes it extremely difficult to run much. I'm trying to get at least one maintenance run in a week. Hopefully, this will keep it from getting really ugly. If you think my heart rate in this run is high, you should see it when I do speed work. Anaerobic running doesn't bother me too much. I'm an old time wrestler so my pain threshold is different than most people. I would call my run comfortablely difficult at 190 - 195 BPM. Rgs, Jeepman

Thanks for sharing. I'll have to check that program out. My Garmin Trainer was "free" too. Well, at least it came "free" with the purchase of my 305.

So is there any cheap way to get the heart rate and GPS info tracked in such a way? What equipment would be necessary?

Check out Amazon for GPS enabled heart rate monitors. I got my Garmin 305 for $156, no Taxes and Free shipping.

@jeepman
I have a 305 as well, the sportTracks program integrates really well with it. You can import all of your history on to it so you won't lose any of you runs. It is so much better than the garmin training centre, I guarantee you won't go back to it.

Are those sportTracks data shareable so you can see those nice Tracks with descriptions on the web?

Here's my data on The Great Aloha Run. Fun race if you don't mind a few people around. There were over 17,500 participants. Crazy! The race was 8.1 miles from the Aloha Tower to the Aloha Stadium, and I did it in just under 1:04. I even ran into another VFFer, Roo. She and her black KSOs finished in under her goal of 1:15 beating out 88% of the shod competition. Definitely a must do if you are ever in Oahu during February.
