I got them during early 2011, I know the models have changed a bit through time. I think the insole might be different than the latest one the KSOs use.

Why do I prefer them? Better ground feel. The sole is harder and transmits better, even though it *might* be a bit thicker. Has anyone measured them with calipers? Its supposed to be thicker, but it doesn't feel that way. The KSO has more compressible material. The KSOs, at least the latest version, have much better toe pockets, better seams, and insole. I didn't check the Treksport the last time I went to REI, so there might have been some changes. The KSO also has a wider sole, it doesn't have the arch fabric my TreksSports have, and might do better in wet conditions.

Now for the abnormal thing about the KSOs: The heel is lumpy! If I run my finger along the heel area of the insole there's clearly a ridge at the center of it running north to south.  It gave me some horrible heel blisters. I didn't return them right away because I hate being in stores and wanted to exchange them when SeeYas came out, but after reading about the loose heel and possible durability issues, I don't want them anymore, at least not the current version.

Has anyone else had/heard of this problem?

I have several different pairs of VFFs.  BY FAR the best fitting and most comfortable are the kso's (i have 2 pairs), they feel wider because they are more flexible so they can shape around the foot better.  With my experience my Treksports are stiff and tight fitting and the ground feel is not even close to comparing to the kso.  I only use my trek sports for hiking/backpacking, other than that they aren't very enjoyable for me.  I have never heard of the heal issue you have experienced, I would really recommend returning them and giving the kso another shot.  I am ordering the Seeya, but they will only replace my bikilas for my road running.  Nothing will ever replace the kso, it is the shoe prefected.

i prefer my ksos over my trek sports overall. casual wear and road runs i always go with ksos, but of course more low traction situations i go with the trek sports
