This is what happens after just normal wear and tear, no running. I have to find a wool toe sock that actually stands up.

I got a pair of the smartwool socks at Christmas and I'll be getting more of them. They seem to be built better than the injinji socks. Also they are warmer, and merino wool is an amazing material for active wear. I have a few pieces of icebreaker gear, and nothing keeps me warmer out in the cold. I couldn't reccomend the smartwool socks more!

The pile in the fabric feels much softer in the SmartWool socks. I have Injiji wool socks and they feel stiff and scratchy and uncomfortable compared to SmartWool socks. Actually Injiji socks are my least favorite socks out of all the different styles I own. The only time I wear them is when I need a really thin sock. My favorite pair of socks are these: http://www.sockdreams.com/products/terry-loop-wool-walkers-socksThey are thicker then any other toe socks and I can't wear them in all my sizes of five fingers. They fit better in my size 43 pairs then my size 42. I still love these socks though. They are super super comfortable, warm, soft, durable, and reversible. Meaning they are tube socks so no right or left pair just flip them around and they will fit on either foot! |

Looks like you need to moisturize those pads or you have sandpaper in your shoes  I have Injinji's that are over 3 years old that have just started thining around the ball but you can't see through them yet. I also have two pairof Injinji "outdoors" that I run in when it's dry and it's around freezing (before I break out the KSO's). I have many many miles of pounding the pavement and show little wear. The Smart Wools are a nice alternative as barefooted mentioned. |

bmstrong, I can usually get about 6 - 8 months of life from my Injinji Nuwool socks (the Outdoor ones that barefootin mentioned), but trail running really beats them up and they start to wear a bit like yours.
Thanks for the tip on the Smartwool toe socks, Bearfooted. I'm going to give those a shot.

Yikes, it takes me months to years to wear out mine (and that is on a rotation of three pairs with 6+ miles of running a day!)!
Even then, as a previous poster described above, it is just so the ball is maybe wearing thin! I hope you find a solution soon!

You should contact Injinji
I had a problem with 2 pairs of my socks having little holes in them after only wearing them twice, they said they would be more than happy to replace them. Not sure if this has happened to you many times from the same batch, but just thought I'd throw that out there

I don't get as much wear out of the wool injinji socks as the synthetic ones so I thought I would get a pair of the smartwool ones to try because I like everything else I've tried of theirs. However when looking at them in the store I found them to be very scratchy, maybe they are soft after you wash them but not in the store. I'm not sure if they use cheaper wool for their toesocks because I'm very happy with the few pair of Smartwool socks I do have but the thought of scratchy wool in between my toes freaks me out. Maybe it's because everything else is made in the U.S. and these said made in China. I also didn't notice where they said merino or austrailian wool as i think their other products do so maybe these are Chinese wool. Either way couldn't do it.
