Has Merrell never really done wide before? I know that in regular shoes I could wear Ecco but not Merrill in their standard sizing. Never had a Merrell that would fit, but always liked a lot of their styles. If they will now have a wide minimalist, that is awesome!! Though it is the exact same price as my NB MultiSport wides. Seems like these minimalist shoe companies are like gas stations. All the same price regardless of supply or demand.

The water stuff seems like a way to milk the market... $80-100 for sandals? Really? You were saying? The reason water shoes have a flat smooth surface is because it creates a suction type grip. That smooth sole pushes water out from under the foot. A treaded grip would allow areas for water to pool and provide less surface area in contact with the ground. I think merrell is doing exactly what minimalists want. More options, wider width, and more competition.

Re: water stuff It just seems odd to me that there's no siping that's all. Re: wide width I brought my Merrells to the cobbler to get them widened. I think he widened them by about 1/4". It took several days in the stretching machine. (looks like http://www.shoesystemsplus.com/cam80stretcher.html)

That's a nifty gadget! Since you had to widen the Trail Gloves ... where was it squeezing your foot? Was it squeezing the sides of your foot in the toebox area? Or was it pressure along the top of the foot around the metatarsal area?

I wear the Tough Glove not Trail Glove (because of rain), but it's the same sole. The narrowing at the midfoot was stopping my pinky toe from splaying all the way (roughly in front it says "Vibram", right at the end of the toe guard thing) when I had my thick Injinjis on, but without Injinjis that are thick (i.e. original weight or barefoot) my foot is swimming in it horizontally (width-wise) at the toebox and the heel. Also, my midfoot bone (cuboid? or fifth tarsometatarsal?) sticks out into the foam part by about a 1/8". You can see the effects where the dirt is on the foam part next to the midfoot tread: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-Dmt6gK6N9P8/TwCGaHePh-I/AAAAAAAAAEE/GDLpyeIsSUo/s1600/IMG_0680.JPGhttp://2.bp.blogspot.com/-ur67QCACdDo/TwCGVyCPdtI/AAAAAAAAAD8/4Az-EkJqunc/s1600/IMG_0679.JPGThe midfoot narrowness is characteristic of the VFF Trek/Trek LS/Bormio/Treksport as well, which is why I hesitated to buy it.

Finally! Woo woo! My mutant wide feet are gonna be happy this year! Now I just need them to come out with a Wide Width for the Tough Glove... Do you own these now? I see you have reviewed them on Merrell's site. I am wondering just how much wider they are than the regular widths.

I'm not sure how much wider they are than the regular width, but the mens size 8 is about 3 7/8th inches at its widest point when measure along the bottom of the sole.

That's it? Only an additional 1/8" of width? FAIL!

If it's only 1/8" you're better off widening a normal width one yourself at a cobbler It's probably not even E judging by that amount. http://shoes.about.com/od/mens_size_charts/a/men_width.htmU.S. Men's Shoe Size C Narrow D (Medium/Standard) E Wide 6 3.3" 3.5" 3.7" 6.5 3.3" 3.6" 3.8" 7 3.4" 3.6" 3.8" 7.5 3.4" 3.7" 3.9" 8 3.5" 3.8" 3.9" 8.5 3.6" 3.8" 4.0" 9 3.6" 3.9" 4.1" 9.5 3.7" 3.9" 4.1" 10 3.8" 4.0" 4.2" 10.5 3.8" 4.1" 4.3" 11 3.9" 4.1" 4.3" 11.5 3.9" 4.2" 4.4" 12 4.0" 4.3" 4.4" 12.5 4.1" 4.3" 4.5" 13 4.1" 4.4" 4.6" 13.5 4.2" 4.4" 4.8" 14 4.2 4.5" 4.9" 14.5 4.3 4.6" 4.9" 15 4.3 4.6" 5"

Either way it's not much.

It really depends on size for Normal wide width shoes so 5mm for a woman's size might be quite a bit Commonly wide is an extra 3/16 inch which is 4.76mm
This begs the question why they don't go a minimum of 2E like New balance did with the minimus zero
