It really depends on size for Normal wide width shoes so 5mm for a woman's size might be quite a bit
Commonly wide is an extra 3/16 inch which is 4.76mm

This begs the question why they don't go a minimum of 2E like New balance did with the minimus zero

Because they are still ingrained in the same type of shoes they've been marketing for the last 20 years. They have not fully grasped what we want in a shoe. Sure they are selling some, but that is because we are so desperate for anything that is not an over stuffed marshmallow shoe. NB and Altra seem to be the two companies that come the closest.
