I personally hate those (pseudo-)shock advertising campaigns. It makes me feel embarrassed of wearing the same kind of shoes or whatever thing I use being advertised.
I have a similar feeling every time I listen/read how reading "Born to Run" changed someone's life and then he (or she but can't remember any) decided to buy a pair of VFFs. When I get my first VFFs I hadn't even heard from that book. At the time I was unsuccessfully trying to buy a pair of VFFs that book hadn't been even published. I have to thank my personal discovery of minimalist running shoes to an article on a Feelmax shoes published in Runner's World. I never got them as they were way too expensive and hard to find, but while searching for information about that Feelmax in blogs, forums and videos I couldn't help but noticing those weird shoes with toes. I was curious how would feel running in them. That was in Feb 2009. I tried to get a pair but in the only place I was able to find in my country my size were out of stock. Six months later was me who ran out of patience and ordered a pair one size bigger (KSO M41) (to a second retailer that had recently emerged from Hades) but those shoes were too large and had to send them back (actually I drove 317 km/200 miles to return the shoes and then drove back). In August 2009 I finally decided to take the risk (without possible return) and order my first pair to a US retailer, and I never regretted it. They actually were a size too small but that didn't bother me, I thought that had to be the right feeling since I couldn't (yet) compare with anything else (BTW, is someone living in Europe interested in a cheap pair of Sprints Blue/Camo M40 still in good shape?).
