By hot I mean relatively new, black asphalt that gets up in the 180°F range when ambient temps are around 100° like we've been having around here in the mid-south?  And I'm not talking about being able to feel the heat (I expect that) but is there any risk of the sole material starting to melt or get sticky at those temperatures?

I go barefoot, but my dog wears shoes.

They're fine. It's been 104 here in texas for the past week and my vffs haven't melted. They do get warmer than normal shoes so you'll feel that heat coming off the pavement, but at least your feet aren't burning like if you were barefoot.

I find it's uncomfortable for my feet well before the VFFs have an issue. Smiley

I was running all summer in Texas too. 30 days in a row over 100 degrees and my Bikilas did just fine. Like the others, my feet were hot well before the material gives way. I'm a road runner and if you're from TX you know most roads are that black tar stuff. Tried full out barefoot once on the burning asphalt...learn from my stupidity
