I currently have a pair of TrekSports in size 42 and I have a little slack in the heels but the toes fit well.  I have put about 6 miles on them so far with about 3 of those miles being made while carrying a 50 pound pack.  I have had them in some pretty tough terrain, some deep mud and in a river. I have never had a problem with them slipping or coming off.  I think the heel strap plays a large part in the fact that they haven't slipped or came off.

My question is, if the Speeds will have the same heel slack and if anyone has had any problems with them slipping on the heel since they don't have the heel strap?  I intend to wear the Speeds casually, not for running or hiking and if I size down the toes do not fit (at least in the TrekSports they didn't).  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks.

The Speeds seem to run a little small and IMHO a little narrow.  I am a M40 in KSO, M41 in Classics and Bikila LS, yet I am an M42 in Speeds.  Regarding the fit at the heel, I have had no slipping in mine.  I wear them casually, and certainly have never stepped in the muck in them.  The toes in the M41 Speeds were all right length wise, and I only needed to upsize to the M42 because of the width at mid foot.  Toe length wise I did not notice a difference, as my big toe seems to sit in the toe pocket the same in both sizes.  I certainly wouldn't size down Speeds, as compared to your TrekSports.  If anything, I'd go up one size.  Whatever size Vibram's sizing chart says your foot measures at, go up one size.  According to Vibram, I should have taken a M40 in Speeds.  I tried them on, and there was no way.  I could not even get my foot in them.  I think my needing to go up two sizes was a rarity and was based on my excessive foot width.  M41 fit fine length wise, but was too narrow around the bottom two eyelets and was really pinching my foot.  According to Vibram's chart, I should also be a M40 in Bikila, yet found that I needed a M41.  There are a lot of threads on this site regarding Speed fit specifically, and also Vibram sizing in general.  So, if you do not want to take my sole opinion, feel free to peruse the site and see what experiences others have had with fit.

So be sure when you step.
Step with care and great tact and remember that Life's a Great Balancing Act.
Just never forget to be dexterous and deft.
And never mix up your right foot and your left.
