I considered cutting the straps and flaps off my Trek KSOs, they were comfortable when loose, but the visible velcro isn't appealing to me. I tried wearing them without the straps but then the extra leather for the straps hangs off the sides like ears, do I cut them?? Below is my solution I've worn the past year.  This is simply a black hair tie pulled though the plastic strap holder. (one band doubled to shorten the length)  When you move it stretches.  Just connect the band and put the strap through.  No cutting!  No Worries! Hope this helps you! And to think I almost took scissors to my shoes! |

That is really clever. Thanks for posting that solution. The strap on my treksports doesn't close all the way and when I wear certain pants, the hem catches on the exposed velcro - both damaging and annoying. I can't wait to try your fix.

Another trick is to cover the exposed velcro, making a matching piece of velcro covered in leather like the strap. I made it two days ago and it works, will post a pic later

OP - you just made my LIFE!!! I just got some KSOs but I am kinda between sizes (38w fit snug but not uncomfortably so, 39w are just a bit too big), and I have had trouble getting either the velcro closed (achilles comfortable) or my achilles is aching (but velcro closes). This fixed it in a snap! Now my KSOs are snug as a bug in a rug, yet I can slip them on easily without having to undo the velcro. You da MAN!!! brb, off to wally world to get some bands that match my grey/fuschia KSOs  |

The straps on the Trek Sports I just got have velcro that holds them on at the back of the heel. I ended up just removing them. No cutting necessary. Even with the modification the strap just bugged me.

Awesome, I do that as well! I have 4 girls, and a wife, with those hair bands all over the house. To get back at them, (playfully of course) I thought, "what can I do with these things?" I remember someone posting something like this a couple years ago, and vio'la, a great project for all those hair bands around my house that tend to multiply like rabbits!

Thank you so much for sharing this terrific idea! I have always had problems with the straps on my various Treks and Sprints, they were always too tight and I didn't wear those styles as often. After trying this trick the "strap" styles are actually comfortable now. Thanks again!
