I realize that would be essentially turning them into classics so why bother, but you'd have fully functional heel straps opposed to a bungee. Is this a viable option or seemingly pointless?

Not pointless, but impractical. YOu'd still have the sprint heel and how well does that secure your foot without the main strap? The bungees on the classics aren't that annoying imo. The only advantage I can think of would be the lack of the heel tab that is on the classics, but this advantage is negated by the sprint heel. Well, also you'd have more color choices...

I don't know then heel seems like a reasonably snug fit with the straps. I haven't really had too much opportunity to mess around without the main strap though. I guess we'll see as it gets closer to summer.

good question; I'd be really curious to know what you decide on/how they work out. I have always found this pix off the Facebook photo page very interesting. It seems she did the conversion?

There is a guy in my hometown who walks around in a pair of Sprints with the main strap pull out of the loop, just aimlessly flailing around. Seems like he'd find something better to do with it.

Yeah looks like she had the same thought, but already went through with it. I played racquet ball for about an hour with the strap loose enough to not provide support. I did have a heel slide toward the end that freaked me out a little, so I ended up playing basketball afterwards with the strap secure. Fortunately I also have a pair of kso's and I may just commit to the sprint mutilation. The removal seems pretty straight forward, but pictures could be posted if there is enough interest.

well, i decided that it was worth the mod since i am ordering another pair and these are far beyond the warranty. ill upload some pix later today. they actually are very comfortable and relaxing. it feels even more minimalist than classics.

first, you must upload them to a photo site. I use photobucket.com They have a drop down box when you scroll your mouse over a thumbnail image that allows you to choose from a few different links. Choose the "UBB Code" option, and copy/paste that into the forum.

Sorry about slacking on this post, but here are some pictures with the strap removed. After the initial cut you're going to get the feeling "what the hell have I done?" This is only natural. After you go in head first the water warms up though. It's pretty nice having the strap gone, haven't run into any problems yet. It takes a bit of time to find your sweet spot with the hell straps, but you'll get there. Looking back I wish I used a thread remover for the velcro so I could have a more aesthetically pleasing cut, but hindsight is 20/20. It looks like I'm giving the stink eye in one of these pictures, but just tired from ultimate/big dinner afterwards. Proceed at your own risk. I enjoy the mod, but some may not. Side bar, you may have to paste the link... also you may gain access to my account, but I just made it so....

ok so i have a pair of red sprints that are three years old and i hardly wear them because they are a w41. in my mens classics i wear a 40 and my mens black kso i also have a 40. if you do the math on that the sprints are 9 7/8" long while the classics and ksos are 10" and 10 1/4" respectively. needless to say my sprints are a little tight. i bought them over three years ago before five fingers were really known at all and the sprints were newly released. i drove over an hour to get a pair and the w41 was all they had. i figured it was close enough and i had to have them so i have been the proud owner of women's shoes for almost three and half years. with that said this mod post has had me really thinking i could get some more use out of my sprints by cutting the strap so i did. i gotta say i really like it. not having the strap over the top has allowed my normally bunched toes to slide back some and my heel sits nicely in the heel cup. the rear straps hold the shoe on really well and in a much more comfortable way than the classic's achilles tab. I also dont have any issues when i'm sitting or driving with the heel getting dug into by the tab on the back either. i still love my classics but am very happy with the results of changing up my sprints. if you are curious about this mod i would say to pull the strap out of the loops and play with the rear straps as you wear them around the house, to get the mail, or whatever and see if it's works for you. i cut the stitching on the strap and left both the strap anchors the same shape they were originally and it looks pretty clean. i recommend it for a nice comfy classic like experience
