I got my first pair of Treks and love everything about them - except for the tag inside the shoe on each heel. Boy, that tag sure rubs on the bottom of my heel. I finally tried to get it out of one of the shoes, but now I'm left with two ridges where the stitches held it in place. Has anybody come up with a good method of dealing with those obnoxious tags? Why on earth did Vibram think it would be a good idea to have those in there?

Not sure what tag you are referring to.  None of my VFF have had tags in them.  Where did you buy the shoe?

None of my others do, either. I got them from River Sports Outfitters. Inside each heel there is a cloth Vibram tag that is sewn down into the footbed.

AHHH that tag.  Yes that is there.  It does not bother me at all on any of the KSO Trek I have.  I forgot all about it actually.  Try picking at the stitches you should be able to pull them all the ay out and get rid of the little ridges that are there.  Might take some time and effort but could help your issue.

In general, when I am cutting at stitching like that I find the best tools are nail scissors, tweezers, and a thread cutter, and most importantly PATIENCE.  It is going to take a while.

There's also something called a seam ripper...it sounds like a weird name, but actually is very straight-forward.  http://www.amazon.com/Dritz-R-Deluxe-Seam-Ripper/dp/B0001DSIVY  These are better than scissors, nail clippers, etc because there's a lot less chance of cutting fabric surrounding the thread.

Also, you might just want to give the threads a chance.  The tags in mine actually came out on their own after some wear and the threads bugged me at first, but now I don't even notice them.

This is actually exactly what I was talking about when I said stitch/thread cutter.  I have one of these in my kit.  They are fantastic tools
