Have just signed on to this discussion forum, and want to say hello. (Mississauga is just outside of Toronto, by the way... )
I ordered my VFF Classics about three weeks ago, directly from Vibram in Massachusetts (because the only local retailer who carries VFFs doesn't carry the Classic). I figure they should be here soon. To be honest, I'm getting a little anxious - Toronto to Boston is only a 10 hour drive, but we're talking about USPS and Canada Post...
I'm a runner, and recently completed my first ultra (50K). I'm keen to use my new VFFs on my daily training runs and shorter upcoming races (a 16K, a 10K, and a half marathon), and hope that I'll be able to run marathons and ultras in them too.
all the best,
Alan

Hello Alan
Welcome to the board. 10k today. Brings me up to just under 200 miles in fivefingers. Do you do anything close to barefoot now? Takes a bit of adjustment when moving from ordinary shoes to fivefingers. Jason (UK)

That sounds good. Congratulations! Do you do anything close to barefoot now? Takes a bit of adjustment when moving from ordinary shoes to fivefingers. No barefoot or almost barefoot running. I've worn almost nothing but Birkenstock sandals (summer and winter) for about 30 years, and go barefoot as much as I can. But I run in Brooks Trance 8s. I'm ready to transition, and am prepared to spend some time doing it. Alan

Hi Alan and welcome. Take your time, shorten your gait, walk barefoot and on the balls of your feet as often as possible, soon you will be a barefooter like a lot of us. Kevin.

Unfortunately, my go-to winter Birkenstocks have been the "Boston" clogs since 1998 or so. Switching to VFFs, I realized that the clogs trained my toes to lift to keep the clog from sliding forward on every step. I'm now fighting a decade worth of muscle memory (but it is getting there) -- it's not a major problem, more a minor nuisance to overcome. Welcome to the forums!

I've been watching my toes do that for years! <g> In fact, my wife often teases me about it. I hadn't thought of that being an issue with VFFs, but will watch for it. Thanks for the tip! One thing I didn't mention before, but is probably worth knowing about me... I'm a licensed reflexologist, and as such aware of how pressure on the soles of the feet can play a part in one's overall health. I'm keen to see how that plays out with my VFFs. You can find my reflexology Web pages at: http://www.pathcom.com/~praxis/I also have a running blog, to which I post twice a week or so. It's at: http://www.thwaits.wordpress.com/And, last but not least, I'm on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/alan.thwaitsThanks again for the kind welcomes to the forums. It's good to be here. Alan
