so i dont need socks with these right - do they have a bikila like liner? i love running sockless and i know my kso's i couldnt without rub blisters bikilas yes no problem my classics i dont wear socks but i dont run in them either
My concern as well, I run in Speeds w/out socks too. I got an extra pair for around town everyday living.
it depends on each individual; it took me 8 months to build up to a 5K. prior to that, I did everything else before I ran anything longer than a 1/2 mile in my Speeds. I lifted weights in them, took my sons on 7 to 10 mile hikes and walked all over Las Vegas in them. Keep in mind I haven't entered a race since I was 20, I am 42 now, but I am not looking forward to it either. I rather run with a bunch of peeps and enjoy the camaraderie and social setting. I also, regulated my sponges to work shoes--they did cost me 120 dollars. I'm not sure of training being any different with VFFs than sponges--just form. I am still running 5k's with mild calf tightness the next day after, but it is getting easier for me. I believe your body will tell you everything you need to know about your training.
Over all, it looks like you will do fine. The calf pain does go away. for me it was a fair substitute for the chronic shin pain I got rid of the minute I put on my Speeds.
You really should go try on a few different pair to see what works for you. That is always the best way to figure it out. We can give opinions all day long, but in the end you have to spend the money.
ditto--that is a difficult question to answer... I like my Speeds (it's the Bikilas sole and style that works for me) ....I got two sets: 1 for exercise and 1 for everything else. work won't let me wear them so I saved my Nike's for that.
OK, I saw a youtube video of some dude ranting on how Speeds are not marketed for running. Is this true? I run, walk, weight train in mine all the time. Is there any reason to believe that speeds with a Bikila sole would not be suitable for running?
I am done with the notion of waiting around for calves to heal. I am losing to much hard earned cardio conditioning in the process. So I am going back to 1 hr of some other exercise, in my Speeds, other than running. Here is the list I got so far: Elliptical Machine, Swimming (they won't let my shoes in the pool, rowing, biking (although I am not a fan of the pain in the seat), weights and of course walking. I'll run maybe once or twice a week for two miles or until the calf pain occurs.
actually, I have SPEEDS, but we got to have white socks when in our PT gear, and I don't have white socks for the speeds...so for that 1.5 mile, I was out of standard. But my shins were not hurting....so, I am getting white socks this weekend.
I tried to maintain form when running in my nikes and in less than 1 mile my shins were flareing ...So, I took them off, myshoes not my shins, and ran in my socks. I ran another mile and a half before my achillies. At first, I was skeptical, but did enjoy running in my socks.
well, as long as I am in the AF, group PT and my PT test will be done while I wear my Nikes. other than the once a week mandatory PT we do, I am normally wearing my Speeds both casually and for exercise. My concern is, do I try to maintain my form even in my nikes, or because they are Nikes, should I change something? After I retire in 6 months, I will be wearing nothing but my VFF Speeds and set my Nikes to rest.
