Hi there,
after starting to run a few months back I finally decided to time myself. I'm really not sure what is good/bad/mediocre time.
I ran 5k in 21:35. the terrain was pretty hilly at parts and in no way did i prepare for it, (3 donuts and a coke an hour before going).
I also ran 10k in 46:10, but this involved a few stops at traffic lights.
running is not a sudden amazement for me. I have played sports since a boy and I have an athletic build. I don't know if this will help your evaluation.
my questions are, are the times good? also what would be considered a moderate pace to run in a 50k, for me. I have one nearby on 3 months and think I might give it a bash.
cheers guys
oh, I run in komodo sports
Dave.

Whats up Dave, I've never run a 10k but plenty of 5ks. I'm in high school and I've run Track and Cross Country going on three years now. My best 5k is around 19:30 but i average around 20-21, so i would say that your 5k time isnt bad at all.

Look at coolrunning.com race results to see how your time fares with others of your gender and age. That will give you an idea.

Whether times are "good" is very, very relative. Good as compared to what? There are guys in the world who can run a 5k in 13 minutes, so compared to that, no, not very good. And there are a lot of people who would have a heart attack even trying to run 5k, so compared to that, yes, very good! For a beginning runner, I'd say those times are about typical. You're not going to win any races, but you're certainly not going to embarrass yourself.
