Saying "5716 People entered a race, and I beat 5021 of them" is way cooler than telling people you came in 695th"

Has anyone been doing 100 ups?  I did them religiously for about 2 days then forgot about them. Tongue

I read this one last week and had been practicing 100-ups at home.
I just returned from my first 5-miler, doing my "hill killer" local route, and my calves are already sore!
Good sign, though, because the rest of me is not sore one iota.

I will be running like "stepping over logs" from now on.  That is, when my calves loosen back up!

Great article!

Even before I ever knew about 100 Ups (or other running techniques similar to the stepping over logs idea), this has always seemed a more natural way to run (and perhaps due my shorter legs, I also had little choice).

I cringe when I see people doing huge strides and heel striking. Many people never learn to run though - my assistant, despite running marathons and ultras (in regular shoes) is one of these! They often mistake long strides for being speedier. I will have to forward this to her.

Of course, it is usually those who are used to those huge strides who think/assume barefoot running is "bad" - including my aforementioned assistant's own physiotherapist.  Roll Eyes

Using this technique, or emphasizing it more, has made me slower for the time being.  But, I know before long, I'll be back up to speed again.

My calfs are sore as hell, and my foot arch muscles ache.  But the rest; knees, hips, ankles, shins, all feel GREAT!
