beginner's guide to vibram five fingers
I have to admit...I'm a bit weirded out by the two laced VFFs, but maybe they'll grow on me. The Bikila seems like a really cool shoe - but I wonder what really makes it different from the KSO (other than the lack of mesh). Perhaps it's the first VFF designed specifically for running?

Thanks for the updates. I'm getting really excited about the Bikila! Of course, I can't wait for the Trek or Glove etc either but still...

I wonder when they'll be announced officially - aren't they coming out relatively soon? That probably means we'll have to wait a while for info about the Bikila etc.

We just returned from a US tradeshow and didn't see any lace up VFF's available for 2010, but we did see the Performa, Moc and Trek.

Hmmm... I don't know what I think... I am a bit weirded out too, but I guess I will reserve judgment until I see them.

Someone please tell me that these are a hoax. I'm about as rabid as the next FF fan (one pair Classic, one pair KSO, and jonesing for the Trek), and I think these look horrible. I'm afraid that Vibram might be "jumping the shark" with these new models. Someone call the Muppet Show, 'cause we've found everyone's shoes.

@Jennifer,

Thanks for the heads up! Incorporated your helpful photos in the news on the Moc and Performa post!

@Chad,

I don't think they are a hoax! Knowing the Speeds are likely to be a limited European release might help swallow the aesthetics. The whole fashion scene in Milan might go for something like that.

As for the Bikilas, I think they might actually make for an intriguing addition to the VFF line-up. For one, I'd imagine the slightly thicker material around the ankle could do wonders for absorbing sweat. For another, I'm curious how the additional smidge of EVA will affect the asphalt/concrete running experience.

Aesthetically speaking, neither look all that sexy in this photo -- but then again, most VFFs look pretty bad when they don't have feet in them giving them their structure. Hard to imagine what they'd look like on actual feet!

The lace-ups are really strange looking to me. I'm not so sure about those...

I NEED the lace ups. Besides that I like the way they look, I can't use the KSO because my foot is so wide and high. If a shoe does not have laces and is not a Croc it is unlikely I can use it.

Ditto to Jacquie's comment. I can't get my wide, high foot in a KSO. The Classics and Sprints aren't going to be warm enough in the winter, which makes the Speed pretty good looking in my opinion.

Sure wish the Speed would be available in the US. I wonder how much extra it will cost me to purchase it from Europe.

The Bikila's are very intriguing. But the women's color is gharish! What is it? Pink and orange? Please! Why does every running company believe that all women are dying to wear pink! Yeack!

Seriously, ALL women do not like PINK. I do like Orange. I would hope we get two choices in color. I like the men's version better. I received an email from Vibram and they said my wait will be over mid Feb or end of Feb... I AM counting the days :)

Has anybody heard about how much the Bikila might cost? I did a simple search and found one site listing them for 114.99 British pounds. With today's exchange rate, that would be about $164. I can't imagine Vibram would ever charge that much.

Then, on another site, I read that products in Europe are usually marked up about 50% due to them having more levels of marketing and distribution. If true, that would put the cost of the Bikilas in the U.S. at right around $91. That is pretty close to the cost of the KSO.

I can't wait for the Bikila.

I went to a retailer today and I believe she mentioned that the Bikila would retail for $110 USD. Hope that helps.

I personally think the Speed looks slick and am going to try to get me a pair.

Does anyone know when the Bikilas will be available? I read March somewhere but I can not find that article again.

And someone please tell me there will be another color for women besides that awful pink/orange!
