Jake, a Vibram Five Fingers fan and Personal Trainer, recently hiked through Olympic National Park in the state of Washington. We noticed a cool picture (above) he posted on the BirthdayShoes Facebook page, and had to find out more. Here are a few more pics and what Jake shared with us about his hike:

I do all my hiking, running and gym work with my VFFs. I have one pair of every model. Being a Personal Trainer and a Fitness Boot Camp Instructor. I fell in love the very first time I put on a pair, because I could understand the benefits of being barefoot. I currently already did my major lifts in the gym barefoot, so I was instantly sold on the concept.

Jake at the lake!

Hiked up to Lake Angeles in the Olympic National Park with my VFF KSO TREK’s (6/19/10 – 6/20/10), the trail is clear of snow and trees. Also, the lake is now 100% thawed (frozen a bit a few weeks ago). At the lake, all the campsites were thawed out, though a few still need to be cleared a bit. Weather was a comfortable 55F average with clouds moving in and out.

On Sunday, we woke up at 04:00 and hiked up the western ridge line over the lake to watch the sunrise. Once the sun came up, the rain came down, so we walked back to the lake to eat breakfast and hike out.

All in all, it was a good hike and it felt really good to get up high with some alpine views. The snow is slowly melting and soon more trails will be open and void of snow. The next hike will probably be Heather Park, but we’ll see how fast the snow melts and what the conditions warrant.

One pair of every model! That is a quite a collection. Jake, thanks for sharing your hiking experience and these great pics. The Pacific Northwest is really a beautiful area with so much to see.

Hailing from College Station, Texas (Home to Texas A&M!), I grew up running cross country. Believe it or not, I gave Justin the name for this site back in early 2009 but I didn't jump on the toe shoes bandwagon until a year later. I am also really into quadcopters and drones and have a blog called OddCopter.com.

what kind of terrain have other used the treks on? and how did you feet feel?

i’ve done a bit of trail running in mine, and can get by no problem. but the little bit of hiking i’ve done in them have left my feet feeling like slabs of raw meat. maybe its a rocky new england thing (new hampshire is the granite state after all), or maybe my feet need more tender loving care than most… anyone else have experiences or advice to share?

What a fantastic background and I love your footwear… No wonder you enjoy hiking. They say right footwear fits perfectly with everything, and I totally agree with that.

The pics are great and I admit I’m a bit jealous of your adventures! VFF have changed my life for the better and I’m really looking forward to the new product roll out this spring. Woo-hoo for barefooting!
