As the debate rages on about the capabilities of Vibram Five Fingers, one Vibram Five Fingers fan, Aubrey, hasn’t found much that can’t be done in them:

What do I do with my Vibrams??? EVERYTHING!!

  • Work
  • Run
  • Rock climb
  • Swim
  • Kayak
  • Hike
  • Sleep (camping)
  • Camping
  • Showered (ok, just to wash them….)
  • Martial Arts (Hung Fa Yi Wing Chun Kung Fu)
  • Climb Trees, to use chain saw to cut them down from above house

The list goes on……

Here’s what Aubrey had to say about his switch to Five Fingers:

Vibram Five Fingers have completely changed the way I approach my footwear. When I do an activity, I always like doing it the right way. While there is definitely more than one way to skin a cat, running and doing other activities in my VFFs is the right way to do things. They are extremely comfortable, and I have definitely noticed a difference in the strength of my legs and overall ‘fluidity’ of movement. I have and will continue to recommend these to my friends and family, and already have 5 people in my family that wear them now as well!

After the jump, see what Aubrey and his sister recently did in their VFFs.

Lots of Mud, Fire and Fun! Aubrey and his sister wore their Five Fingers KSOs to complete in the Dallas Warrior Dash.

Aubrey on competing in the Dallas Warrior Dash:

Last weekend my sister and I, along with our respective others, ran the Dallas Warrior Dash! Perfect weather with tons of people, it turned out to be an exhilarating and incredibly fun experience!

Getting muddy and dirty of course was part of the main event. Through all of the obstacles, both my sisters and my KSOs performed well, even when climbing cargo nets and jumping fire!

While I only saw one other person there with VFFs, people did recognize them more than other races I’ve been in. In terms of performance, the mud we were running through was very clay like and slick. Everyone was falling! The advantage that I saw of VFFs over the other ‘bricks’ people were wearing was that I was much lighter on my feet and could also grip with my toes! In scrambling up the slick river bank, it seemed as if I could get better purchase with them than other people were with their shoes. And of course, I could ‘feel’ the terrain and grip (or lack thereof) a lot better than others as well.

After the race, I hand washed the mud off of my VFFs in the shower – or at least I tried! It took 4 washings each foot, and I am still having some mud come out of the toe pockets!!

My girlfriend just got her first pair of VFFs for her birthday, so she hadn’t adjusted well enough in them to run in them for this race, and my sister’s boyfriend is slowly coming around!

Thanks, Aubrey!

Hailing from College Station, Texas (Home to Texas A&M!), I grew up running cross country. Believe it or not, I gave Justin the name for this site back in early 2009 but I didn't jump on the toe shoes bandwagon until a year later. I am also really into quadcopters and drones and have a blog called OddCopter.com.

Thanks for sharing your story. I am SO excited for Warrior Dash and they haven’t even announced the NW location yet! Seeing you guys have so much fun makes is awesome.

I use my VFF KSOs for golf, and they are just as good as golf shoes but more fun and comfortable!

what heat did you run in? My wife and I ran in our KSO’s on Saturday at 4:30! It was awesome!! 😀 I saw about 4 others on Saturday with VFF’s in our heat and several others who had just ran.

When we heard about the race we immediately went to register but still got in at the end! We ran the 5:30 heat on Sunday!!

Which VFFs do you recommend for martial arts (Wing Chun)? The studio I train at has a sort of grippy floor surface and when I use my trainers they grip too much and don’t allow me to pivot/slide smoothly. Appreciate your advise, thanks.
