I found out last Sunday that Born to Run in Seattle Washington was having a Vibram FiveFingers Trunk Show. I promptly dropped what I was doing and headed down to check out what they had going on. The Local Vibram representative had brought in the 2012 Vibram FiveFingers and had them on display for all to see. Barefoot Ted was also there meeting people signing books as well as giving shoe and running advice.
While I was there I picked up a copy of Born to Run and had Ted sign the book for me. I also managed to grab some cool Vibram FiveFingers stuff. I thought I would put together a little contest/give-away for the site. For details on how to enter the contest read to the end of this article. You could end up winning a free signed copy of Born to run or some other cool VFF goodies.
I also took the time to snap some photographs of the new styles. If you are interested in reading about my first impressions on the new styles and seeing photographs of what is coming out in a couple of months then keep reading after the Jump!
Born to Run
A little background on the store. They have two locations in Washington state. One is located in Bellevue and the other is in downtown Seattle near the REI flagship store. The event I went to was at the Seattle store. The just opened the Seattle store a few months ago. It is a very nice wide open floor plan. I really like the new store’s layout.
My go to place to buy FiveFingers in person is Born to Run in Bellevue. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable when it comes to minimalist shoes. It is also much closer to me than the Seattle store. I bought my first pair of VFF from them so I guess I have some loyalty. They did a fantastic job of sizing me in to my first pair of Bikila LS.
If you want to read more about Born to Run then you can check out their About Us page.
SeeYa
I had the opportunity to try on both of the new models they had on display. The first that I got my hands on was the SeeYa. The display models were a size 44 and I normally wear a size 42-43 so the fit was a little loose. I really like the feeling of the SeeYa when it is on foot. It feels extremely lightweight and minimal. I was shocked when I first tried them on, did not expect it to feel so flexible and light.
The plastic in the arch has a very rubbery/silicone like feel to it. I would compare it to one of those silicone cases you would put on your smart phone. I was worried that it might act like an arch support. The plastic material is so flexible that it gives and flexes with the shape of your foot quite well.
I really like the style of this shoe. It feels like a stripped down version of the Bikila (with the strap). It feels like they reduced the overall weight and replaced certain areas of the sole with a thinner flexible rubber. The strap on across the top of the foot is also nicely done. Feels quite minimal in comparison to the KSO strap.
I don’t know how long these are going to hold up over time/mileage. I would imagine they will last quite a long time under normal road conditions. I think this could even be a good shoe for casual everyday wear while running errands. I know I will be picking up a pair… or two.
If you would like more information about the SeeYa check out our first impressions article.
Spyridon LS
The second shoe I tried on was the Spyridon LS. Keep in mind it was also a size 44 so the fit was a little loose on me. I was not as excited by these shoes just by the looks of them online. I was more impressed once I saw them in person. Once I tried them on though I got kind of pumped about them. They seem like they have a ton of potential.
The styling is very interesting. I like the stone texture on the side of the upper. It gives the shoe a nice βtrail shoeβ feeling. The lines that swoop down to the toe are also a nice touch. It kind of reminds me of the leather accents on the Jaya LR. The lacing system feels very similar to the KomodoSprt LS and the Bikila LS.
The sole is the most unique aspect of this shoe. I thought it would be quite thick and would have less ground feel than the KSO Trek sole… boy was I wrong. I would say the ground feel of this sole is somewhere between the regular KSO sole and the KSO Trek sole. They have included a layer of mesh material between the sole and the footbed. This is supposed to help absorb the impact of blunt objects and disperse it more widely across the foot.
For the short time I had the shoe on I decided to do a little unofficial experiment. I had the Spyridon LS on my right foot and my Bormio boot on my left foot. I walked over to the little rock walking display in the store and I started to stomp and jump around on the rocks. To my surprise the Spyridon LS has more ground feel than the Bormio boots do, while not compromising comfort.
I wanted to know how the mesh would help absorb the blunt force of a sharp rock. I found a place in the rock display that had a pointy rock. I stomped down hard on that part of the display with the heel of both shoes. Even though you have more ground feel I felt like the impact of the rock was comparable to the Bormio’s Trek Sole impact. I do think that the mesh helped disperse some of the impact.
Now I can’t wait to get my hands on pair of these. I am very interested to see just how well the mesh works during long trail walks. If they provide more ground feel then the KSO Trek but with better protection from bruising (because of the mesh) then these could become the go to shoe for trail runners, hikers, and the urban jungle.
Wrap Up
I am very excited about the new styles that are coming out in February. It looks like we have two good options for minimalist enthusiasts. The SeeYa looks like a good response to those in the community who were wanting something even more minimal then the KSO. The Spyridon LS looks like an excellent option for people who want a more rugged shoe with out compromising too much ground feel.
You will have to forgive me. I forgot to take photos of the soles of the shoes. I got a bit excited while I was there and I totally forgot to take those shots. My apologies in neglecting to get those photos for the readers. So just in case you were wondering why no photos of the soles that is the reason. We will have more coverage of each of these shoes as we get closer to their release.
Contest – Officially Closed
I thought it would be fun to have a little contest. While I was a the trunk show I had the opportunity to grab some cool Vibram FiveFingers goodies. I also bought a copy of Born to Run and had Barefoot Ted sign it. I thought I would put together a few prize packages.

Count me in! What a fun thing to be able to be a part of. Looks like it was fun.
Thanks for the those pics of the new SeeYa. I can’t wait to seem how more minimal they are.
Thanks for the info! I agree about the Spyridon not exciting me from the pictures (I think they look like a BAD VFF knockoff), but I’m glad to hear you liked them in person!
First prize right here!:D
Great read. I had similar feelings about the Spyridon before reading this review. You have me interested π Of course, I’d also love to win one of your prizes.
I am looking forward to the See ya. Thank you for doing this
I can’t wait to get my hands on a pair of the SeeYa’s! If they’re out by April they’ll probably be what I run my first marathon in
I’m just not sold on the look of the Spyridons – they remind me of Fila Skeletoes but with laces…
Those new VFFs look way cool! I had no idea there was a trunk show. Just got my first pair and I love my Komodos. Thanks for the review of the new ones coming out.
Great job on the article! I can’t wait to try the new models. I am not sure what I want to pop on, though. I might have to get the BF some spyridon LS =)
These are so awesome and can’t wait until they come out next year!
I am really looking forward to see the the new styles in the spring. Vibram does a great job introducing fresh styles and colors every season.
must have been a great experience. its a shame I’m in the UK as its tough to get any form of face to face contact with the barefoot running gods. I’m looking forward to the See ya model a lot, my komodos are getting a beating these last few months so someone sometime will have to step in to replace.
and kudos to you! how you can walk into a shop like that and NOT buy anything, I will never understand….
Those new models look interesting! I love my Komodos! But my KSOs are my go to for everything!
Love this blog!
Nice write-up Robert. Wish I could have seen the display in person. Really looking forward to the Spyridon LS!!! Thanks for putting together the swag give-a-way!
Having gone back to the sprints for running very much looking forward to the seeya’s hitting the stores
Does Ted own both stores himself or did someone get copyrights of the name? I guess, what’s the story behind the stores?
I cannot wait for the seeya. I love my Bikilas for running, and classics for casual wear in the summer. just bought some Sprint’s for the summer as well. but i think i’ll be adding to my collection with the Seeya. I just hope you can purchase them online at vibram.
wow! I can’t wait for the SeeYas.
It will hard to resist getting several.pairs in 2012. Thanks for al the insights on.your reviews.
Wonderful article Robert. Thank you for sharing and giving a first-hand account on the new Vibrams. Last year, when I was first seriously considering buying vibrams, I was scouring the internet looking for first-hand accounts of the shoes. Not by scientists or fitness experts, but by regular people who just have a passion for shoes that work with the body naturally. Birthday Shoes was where I found it, and since then, whenever people ask me where to find more information on Vibrams, I direct them here.
Again, great article; can’t wait to get my hands on a pair of the 2012 models!
glad to hear the SeeYas were not a let down!
I’m very excited about the Spyridon LS, hoping to make them my everday five fingers.
Pumped for the SeeYas!
Thanks for the pics! Both look like winners to me…can’t wait to get both!
Thanks for the info, love the site and that you’re giving away gifts pick me! pick me!
I’ll probably get a pair of the SeeYa’s – but the Spyridon reminds me of fake reptile texture. Not sure on that one…
Thanks for the scoop!
Sign me up, O Great One!
I was planning on visiting one of these shows whenever they came to my area.
But wait…is that footprint on the autographed page printed or part of the autograph?
I am very excited for the Spyridon ls they look to be amazing shoes and i am hoping to make them my second pair of vff’s.
I’m so sad I missed this event! I think I was actually at the REI across the street that day. π Thanks for the recap and reviews!
These new models look epic. I’ve been wearing a pair of moccasins that my mother made with Vibram cherry soles… Been loving them… Forgot how much I enjoy vffs, though, too… The problem I have with them, though, is they’re very difficult to wear in the winter months. They get cold very quickly π
I love the look of the SeeYa. Wish there were more places in Chattanooga to get these shoes, and more promotion of them or demos in the area. Can’t wait for more.
The SeeYa looks awesome, sounds like you could wear them all over the place, count me in!!
Sure appreciate you showing the new styles. There’s so few place around here that carry 5fingers and even they have only a very limited selection of styles. Thanks!!
Looking forward to hearing a more in depth review of the SeeYa. My Bikilas should wear out about the time these are ready for release.
VFF does trunk shows?! I wonder if they do any in my area? The seeYas look interesting. Maybe my replacement pair when my sprints die out.
Sweet!!
Hey, I have been looking at your site for a while now and it is one of the best for minimalist footwear. I was also wondering where in the world I can find one of those key chains?
Looks like a great event! Love the great pictures, and VFF upcoming line looks pretty sweet!
The seeya looks like it has great potential. I can’t wait to try out a pair.
Looking forward to seeing how these new models perform. Can’t wait for them to come out!
cant wait for them i love vff
Great article! Can’t wait to get my hands on a pair of seeyas.
can’t wait for the seeyas! Look so dope! and hope i win!
Excited about the seeya model.
I had the kso pair, but by accident got destroyed in drying machine (don’t ask).
Wife got me the bikila ones, but the stoke is too thick and lost flexibility on feet toes.
Hopefully seeya are the solution.
Can’t wait to to see these new models, just got my first pair in October and now I have KSOs, Bikila LS, Speed and Trek LS.
I’ll probably end up getting atleast one pair of the Seeya model, hehe. Pick me pick me π
Excited about the Spyridon LS! thanks for the article
can’t wait for the SeeYa’s to come out!
Can’t wait to run in the See ya’s!
sweetness i’ve been wanting a copy of that book. keychains would be nice to show off at school too. how dos the spyridon compare to the trek? would they be more comfortable for casual than the trek?
I’ve been looking forward to the SeeYa for a while. I wish there was a spiked version of VFFs for track sprinters!
i am loving those seeyas! *waves arms around wildly*
Born to Run autographed by hand and foot by BFT, cool!
Justin should post his reviews on the new models soon, you have been stealing his thunder for sure π
Dropping a comment in with the hopes of winning one of these spiffy prizes. π
Thanks for the reviews!
Great pics! Always love to see new VFFs
Any idea when the new styles will be released?
I’ve been waiting for the Spyridon LS for a long time now. Can’t wait for February!
Those new VFF models look really interesting- any word on expected price?
I am so excited about these VFF models! I’m really looking forward to getting the Spyridons for trail running and the See Yas for everyday/casual. Thanks for more great information.

I want a pair in each!!
A passionate user of Vibrams, since their debut… Had 5 Half Marathons, 1 Mud Run, 3 Trail Run 10K’s, and a lot of Miles everyday..
New Model Spyridon look super Cool, and I got to have them.
Waiting for the Book and the Shoes in the Mail…
Dude!! That’s awesome! Can’t wait to try these out π

Love the new models! Count me in!
Can’t wait to slip my toez into the SeeYa!
Would love to win one of these cool prizes, can’t wait to get a pair of the seeyas!!!
I wish we had a better store here in the keys. The one we have, they don’t try and sell them. I couldn’t even get them to talk to me about the classics. Which I already have, I was interested in new ones. They wouldn’t give me the time of day. I went back to buying online.
I want to play! Love the new styles.
Excited for the new lines! My old Vibrams need replacing soon. Darn toe hole! And ohhh how I would love to win that copy, autographed by BAREFOOT TED! Awesome!!!
Can’t wait to try the new seeya they look fab.
I have sprints, Bikilas, Komodo sports and Trek sports. Looks like I’ll be getting a pair of SeeYa’s in February!! Love the way they look and it sounds like they’ll be super comfortable. Thanks for the review!
You know I’m in on this contest!!!!!!!
Thanks so much for everything you do!
<3 my VFF!
Can’t wait for the new models to add to my collection.
Looking forward to the new models, especially the SeeYas! Great article.
I like the Spyridons. They do seem more suited to what I usually wear my Fivefingers for.
count me in i think this is an awesome that they are making new shoes and cant wait to get them!
I cant wait to get my toes on the Spyridon LS!
Just got my first VFF and am loving them.
Love my Komodos, interested in checking out those Seeyas.
VFFs have come so far from when I had to choose between the Classic and the Sprint (Sprint won). Looking forward to poppin’ into BFT’s store and checking everything out when the new line up arrives. Pretty cool stuff.
wow the new models look great! I cant wait to wear mine out and get a new pair! I guess I better start running!
Cool stuff!
The SeeYa looks like a good time – I can’t wait to give them a go. Thanks for the first look (:
This seems cool. I got my first VFFs on my birthday in Nov.(KSO) I want some more but my mom will not get them. so this is cool count me in.
They look sweet!
Thanks for the review Mate I loved the pics and your one lucky son of a gun the See-yas look perfect!!!, And ive been holding out for these newer models even though im sporting bilikas with a mighty fine tear in them lol
Dunno – neither of these have me going yet. I live in my Trex while waiting for the Bormio boots to come out in women’s sizes.
So excited for the new styles!
Love the SeeYa and hope to get a pair when they are out!
Are you serious?! I just received my very first pair for Christmas (Jaya) and I’m addicted! I’ll never wear another shoe. In fact my son asked for a pair for his birthday on Jan. 16th. Sign me UP!
Thanks for the look at the new models.
I am a VFF hoarder…well, not that extreme, but I own six pairs. I run in my Speeds most of the time, but find a variety of uses for all my other pairs. I am looking forward to the new spring styles so I can add to my ‘collection’!
Count me in! Thanks for the info – those SeeYa are just calling my name!
spyridon ls interesting i am on third new pair they get better
I enter me in contest
More new models to keep us hooked!
I am very excited to read about the upcoming Spyridon LS! I started with KSOs and now am running only in Bikilas on open road. As a 59-year-old fairly new runner, the roots and rocks on trails still translate through and make me run cautiously. This new product may help that problem and allow me back on the trails!
I love my VFFs. Started with the classic, got the KSO Trek for trail running and just recently KSO’s for the heck of it. I wear them all of the time. It is rare for me to have regular shoes on my feet! I would love to try the Spryidon LS on our trails.
I love the SeeYa! I can’t wait to get my feet in those.
Looked like some good fun!
The new vibrams coming out look great! My favorite are the See Yas! Although my all time favorite are barefeet!!
Vibrams, Birthdayshoes always bookmarked thanks for the update. I think no 6 is on the way! Got my eye on the women’s SeeYa’s in blue..I know what I want! π Thanks again x
Great info in this article! I have 2 pair of VFFs, but am always on the lookout for new styles.
Thanks for the reviews!
I wore my TrekSports to work for Comfy Shoe Day. I work at JCPenney. I got TONS of compliments from customers and even told some of them wear to get them. The Asst Store Manager and Training Manager weren’t set on them actually being considered sneakers. But thanks to the Shoe Manager, they were corrected π
those shoes look pretty cool. I might pick up a pair of the See Ya once my Bikilas are done. Thanks!
Can’t wait for Feb & I love the photos!
I could use another book. Everytime I go to read mine I run in to someone that hasn’t read it and lend it to them. Those key chains are cool too.
seeya’s might be a good replacement for my crossfit bikilas.
less ground feel then the KSO Trek
Spyridon LS has more ground feel then
ground feel then the KSO Trek
*than* x 3 IMO
I’m excited to see the new FiveFingers models!!! I want to try the new SeeYa!! I love my KSOs, but it’d be cool to have something similar that was a bit lighter. I hope these get into my local store soon!!
the new shoes look great. I hope the elastic across the SeeYa is stretchier than the KSO top. I kept getting top of the foot pain in the KSO that was never present in bare feet or EVOs.
I can’t wait to hear back when I win! =)
Haha I want to live in Washington now. There’s nothing like that store in southern California.
I’m excited.
I received a pair of 5 Fingers Speed for my birthday last week along with toe socks. Can’t wait for a dry day to try them out.
That is awesome! Can’t wait to get my hands on a pair of SeeYas!
The new Vibrams look awesome!
I was just about ready to replace my 2nd pair of Bikilas.
I am in love!!! Can’t wait til I can go to my local VFF retailer (Browns in Port Angeles) to drool over them until I can get the Seeya’s.
Ok…I need a pair of each! But how many Five Fingers is too many? I already have 6 pair! And these come out just before my birthday :))))
The SeeYa’s look slick in grey and blue.
That’s great, two more pair of VFFs that I want to get. Apparently I need a second job to support my habit.
Can’t wait for the new styles, I love my KSOs and Komodo Sport.
The Spyridon’s look fantastic and I cannot wait to try them out on the trails! Thanks for the preview.
I’m excited for the new models. They look cool!
Great info. Can I justify another pair? I have three now. Sure, got a birthday coming soon enough, right?
Love Vibrams! Have been wearing them for 4yrs! Please count me in for the contest!
I want one!
I wasw wearing my KSO Treks while Christmas shooping in New Orleans last week. My girlfriend and I went into the Vibram dealer at The Riverwalk, and came out with a new pair of Komodos for her and a Trek LS for me, and we got to see these in the catalogue. Can’t wait for them to hit stores in Feb.
Interesting post, thank you!
Thanks for the sneak peek. I’m looking forward to the Rimini LRs and the Grados.
I really want some of those Spyridons! I like the bike tire look the soles have.
I love my Bikilas! They keep me on my feet because of how great and comfortable they are, and I always get compliments on the trails! Heard Born to Run has great prices on their shoes too!
I would love to try the spyridon LS they look great for trail running.
Awesome prizes! You’re going to get a LOT of comments. Count me IN!!!
Cool new offerings! Guess it’s time for a new pair of VFF’s!
Got the VFF speeds for Christmas, the are the best shoes I have ever worn. But I am sending them back for a size bigger because my pinky toes are crammed. But other than that I love them. Thanks Vibram!
I am totally getting me some black and lime SeeYas. I’m interested to feel the difference from my Bikilas.
Been aching for a new pair of vibrams since I retired mine at the warrior dash, hope I win.
You know, when I first saw the Spyridon LS, that sole was so repetitive and…. Bland, I guess. It was just so unlike Vibram. But after hearing your short review on it, I’m actually considering it..
Great post! Had no idea the Seattle store had opened. Worth the trek down from Camano!
Looking forward to “after-action” reviews of the SeeYa and Spyridon LS. Coincidentally enough, as I type this, I am wearing a pair of VFF’s.
The Seeya’s look interesting, very similar upper to the KSO’s which are still my favorite. Would love to get the Born To Run Book since my wife has not seen her’s returned yet and I would not mind reading it again.
Loved the article and the see yas look really cool. Plus I like how they got rid of the pull cord and straps on the back.
Thank you for the great post.
I really like the way the SeeYas look.. and I can’t wait to try out the Spyridon! Now if only my KSO’s would wear out already so I have an excuse to pick up some new VFFs…
Can’t wait to try out the SeeYa’s!
Recent Vibram convert and now die-hard fan. Bummed I didn’t know about the trunk show, but I’m excited for newer models. Thanks for the post!
Looking forward to the Spyridon model.
nice keychain
Oh! I think I might have to check out the SeeYa when it comes out!
Cool pics, cool sig on the book too. Thanks for posting!
The SeeYa’s look awesome. I got my 4th pair of vff for Christmas this year! Great article.
Spyridon looks great. What is the release date?
I loved all the pre-Christmas sales on VFFs – Still have room for a pair of SeeYas… cool contest too!
Both The seeya and spiridon look soo awesome!! I cant wait to try them on!!
Ah man, been waiting patiently for the See Ya’s since I heard about them, almost there!
Can’t wait to check out the new shoes! 2012 should be another great year for the barefoot / minimalist runners!
Thanks!
Thanks for the update on the new styles!!! It is good to know that there are special VFF stores. Since wearing VFFs my feet will stand for no other shoes!! I cant wait till pay day so i can start my collection of toe shoes.
Looking forward to getting some fantastic orange VFFs in 2012!
I still love my 2 y/o pair of classics. I have done so much with these! I knew from the minute I saw them I had to have a pair. I am excited about all of the new styles. And I am in need of a new pair. And how cool to live so close to the REI flagship. I have to drive 2 hrs to get to one
Count me in!
I’m loving the look of the Women’s SeeYas ….and at first the orange Spyridons didn’t do anything for me…but the more I look at them, the more they are growing on me! I’m looking forward to adding these to my VFF collection.
Count me in for the seeya’s and the prizes. Im excited about all the spring vff’s. Keep up the great work!
I LOVE them! Living in a rural desert area (thank you US Navy), we have to drive at least 2 hours to the closest store that carries our beloved FF – Having many a bruised heel thanks to the rocks that adorn our section of the world, I am SUPER excited about the Spyridons!
Yay!
SeeYa is my new MUST HAVE!!!
Yeehaw!!! I dig those!!!
A great article, i wish i was there too as i am a fanatic for these shoes. I plan to at some point add the Spyridons to my collection for sure. Hope my plantar gets better so i can run more…
VFF are my favorite running shoes!!
I wanna win a keychain.
Great looking Five Fingers! Can’t wait to see them in “real”!
Thank you for your time in reviewing VFFs for us. I live in a small town and don’t get the opportunities to check things out for myself, so I really appreciate you doing this. Happy running.
The new styles look amazing!!
Thanks for posting! Can’t wait to give the Spridons a try!
Look great. Just got a pair and love them. Now I know the second pair I want to get.
count me in!
The new VFF’s look amazing. Thanks so much for the info and pictures. Can’t wait to see what Vibram will come up with over the next 5 years!
I think the SeeYa will be the next shoe added to my Vibram collection.
i love the foot print as a signature. How appropriate
I am new to the VFF’s and am already addicted. It won’t be long before I will not have even one pair of sneakers in my house!!
The arch support for the Seeya’s seems revolutionary…. can’t wait to see it on more models!
I have one pair of bikilas. Wore them at Yellowstone and Glacier Park. Love them. Am in Tampa for Christmas from Tucson, Arizona and wore mine on flight. Great shoe to wear running through airport. I have high arches and these shoes support so well, I hate to take them off. My arches hurt when I’m not wearing them. I’m looking for new bikila styles and colors to wear.
“Well Hello Shirly!”
I LOVE my monkey shoes as they call them here at work. I work in a machine shop so I have the luxury of being able to wear them everyday. I also run in them. I currently own 10 pair from the sprint to the komosport, black, blue, grey. We took a 12 day vacation to Italy in Aug.,and all I wore were my monkey shoes even in the Vatican. I cannot say enough good things about them. My goal is to get my husband to start wearing them.
I’m really looking forward to trying the SeeYa’s—-they sound amazing and they look adorable. I also hope they’ll have so me fun colors for the women’s sizes!
I’m excited for the new models! These are not going to help curb my VFF addiction.
So excited! Good think my birthday is just around the corner. I think I’ll need a trip to Seattle to celebrate π
thanks for the info and the new pics! can’t wait till the 2012 line comes out I will be adding to my army of vff #12 and 13! vff are an every day part of life for me
I will be getting a pair of both of those styles. Do I see BFT’s foot print on the book?
i want it
the spyridon ls look awesome….I can’t wait to try some on
Can’t wait to get my “feet” on the new 2012 Spyridon LS!!
i really like the kso strap – i like the flow strap even better – but will give these new guys a chance, i’ve gotten two years out to my ksos and they are still going strong
I think i’m most excited to try the Seeya here’s to running naked… I mean barefoot .
I didn’t know they had bumper stickers like that!!!! or keychains!!! i hope im picked because i have no idea where to find them!
Thanks and can’t wait to get the seeya!
I’m definitely going to be adding a pair of SeeYa’s to my collection!
Love my FiveFingers. Toughening up my feet for the cold Northern Wisconsin winter. 10 degrees is a little cold in my FiveFingers so far, but I’m working on it.
Awesome article and sweet new arrivals!
Love the new models, I can’t wait to try a pair of the Spyridons. I just got my first pair of VFFs and plan on adding many more, thanks for the great reviews!
Wow, there are a lot of comments for this story!
I read through most of these comments and found a couple questions that I can answer.
Question 1:
Someone asked if I am the owner of the Born to Run Stores.
Answer: Not the owner. However, I am one of the BTR Store partners. I joined forces with Dan Fairbanks, CEO of BTR Stores, because I saw him as a principled, competent and driven young entrepreneur who has been powerfully inspired by the book Born to Run who auspiciously lives in Seattle.
BTR Stores seek to become a world recognized retail source of information and education about the benefits of minimalist footwear, sandals and bare feet with skilled staff helping create a high quality retail experience.
From my perspective, BTR seeks to be the Apple Store of minimalist footwear with a strong focus on education and customer support.
BTR’s flagship store is found next to REI’s own flagship store in Seattle, so very convenient to visit with free 2 hour parking in the garage under REI.
You can learn more about BTR Stores at http://www.borntorun.com
Naturally, Vibram FiveFingers play an important part of the BTR Stores, and I was very pleased with their lastest versions that I was lucky enough to try. They are maturing nicely into a very well made piece of 21st century footwear for Pan sapiens.
Also, happy to report that Born to Run Stores are currently the only retailer in the USA that is able to stock Luna Sandals. If you go to the Bellevue or Seattle stores, you can try on Luna Sandals that are ready to wear.
BTR Stores will also be one of the first to start retailing upcoming Luna Sandal models for Spring 2012. The Luna Sandal Company is very proud to be able to produce sandals right here in Seattle. We are able to mark them “Made in Seattle, USA”.
2. The question about the footprint on the signed book π
Answer: That is my footprint…stamped on at the store with some Murphy’s Wood Soap π

Great meeting up with you Robert!
Best Regards, Barefoot Ted McDonald
PS. I am also known as “El Mono” in the book “Born to Run”. π I like Los Monos.
That sounds awesome. I’d love to win some VFF stuff!
i wish i could sign things with just my foot!
Great update! I’m looking forward to those new styles since ill be in the market for a new pair soon π
I am intrigued by the Spyridon – looks great!
I am down for a pair of SeeYa’s – it will be my sixth pair – if I end up getting only 1 pair!
I’ve been running in my Bikilas for the last five months and just got a pair of KSO Treks for Christmas! Love them!
Count me in for the contest! I’ve been running exclusively in Vibram Bikilas since March and I LOVE them! They have solved so many problems for me. I’ve run several 5k/10ks, 2 Ultras and 1 full Marathon in them along with all trianing runs, I even ran a Duathlon in them! I got some funny looks wearing them on the bike! I love my VFFs!
I am so pumped for the Seeya! My year old bikila’s are almost set for retirement!!
Nice! Love the article, cool prizes! I was eyeballin’ the keychain when scoping the picture π looking forward to that seeya!
Thanks Robert! Great article and thanks for highlighting our stores.
I just wanted to let everyone know that we are now taking pre-orders of the VFF SeeYa and Spyridon LS at http://www.borntorun.com.

I love my fivefingers kso!
It’s time to buy a new pair!
Wow, cool contest! I haven’t won anything in a contest since like 20 years ago so I guess it’s my turn now. Thanks!
Looks like its gonna be another progressive year for minimalist athletics. Great article and thanks for the pics.
Thank you for the great article and information. I’ve been running in Vibrams for awhile now and ran my 9th marathon on December 4th, but it was my 1st in Vibrams, Yay!!! Vibrams are the best! I have 3 pairs and can’t wait to add more to my collection! (:
Nice π
Count me in for the contest.
can’t wait to wear my Speed’s!!
Thanks for the great article!
Looks like good things coming out of Vibram soon!
The seeya looks sick
Great pictures! I was pumped for the Spyridon before, now I am even more excited. I seriously cannot wait until these are available. Great write up!
That key chain is awesome!
Thanks, Robert for your efforts and your reviews. Not sure of the looks of the SpyridonLS, but I could be sucked in by the SeeYa.
Enjoyed the review, can’t wait to see the shoes in person.
Thanks for the pictures, I am less disappointed in the new styles with those pictures. The women styles look better than I thought. Hope I win!
Love the SeeYa.. Can’t wait for them to hit stores!
The SeeYa = super legit! I see it replacing my Bikilas. π
Got a chance to see the new line and meet Ted in Austin. Very excited to get some of the seeyas!
Another good review. i just want to thank you for all the work this past year. You keep me informed on what is going on in the barefoot world. Love the site.
Looks great! I have a pair of Speeds that I got shipped from Europe before they were released here. I’m looking for my next pair, any suggestions? I usually just wear them around and to work (I’m an elementary teacher).
Can’t wait to my feet on these! Thanks for the great blog.
Can’t wait to try onthose shoes!
Can’t wait to try them on for myself.. Might have found my 4th pair of fivefingers!

Can’t wait to stomp around on some rocks with the new Spyridons! Thanks for posting…
Very interested into new SeeYa they look nice.
I just recently moved to the Seattle area and had no idea that the store existed! I can’t wait to check it out!
I unjoy me VFF’s for short runs and lounging after longer ones. I’d really intrigued by the See-Ya’s. Thanks for the contest!
These are really cool. Can’t wait to pick up the first prize π
When will these shoes be available? Too cool! Looking forward to adding them to my 5fingers repertoire!
i see a pair of seeya’s in my future! can’t wait to visit BTR on my next trip to seattle!
Would love to win some of these prizes for my daughter – a real VFF fan. I also have a pair of KSOs. Great products – the new styles look great!
Great information and prizes! I absolutely love my VFF. I did the Tough Mudder in my Komodos last month and they were amazing. After running in them for two years, I swear by them. I’m really looking forward to getting my hands on a pair of SeeYas when they come out π
The seeya’s look awesome. Can’t wait to try them out. Was going to replace my almost worn out kso’s. Gonna have to wait for the seeya now.
Looked like a great show. Want to get a pair for the zombie run in LA next October! Seems very appropo!
hey great article thinking the seeya’s are going to be awesome!!!!!! and im looking forward to feeling how the Spyridon LS are one trail
Wow! I really like the look of the Spyridon LS. I can’t wait to try a pair on…
Nice review! Can’t wait for the release!
Good luck everyone! I can’t wait to try on some of the seeya’s
my nickname is “born to run”. I ran B2V in my Vibram shoes and can’t leave without them. I’m in. :))
Thanks for the reviews! I’m super excited about the SeeYa, the Bikila/KomodoSport are too inflexible for me and make my toes cramp. Have to stick with the ol’ classics, sprints, KSOs, and Jaya.
very cool! I think the spyridons look nice and i cant wait to try on a pair.
BFT FTW!
Count me in….Love the SeeYas!
Thanks for the pics and reviews! February should be about the time I will need a new pair of Vibrams and the spyridon look like possible disc golfing shoes. I can’t wait to try them out. How do you think they will do with mud and puddles?
Thanks for sharing. I love my VFFs!
Thanks for the review of the new styles. I still like my Bikila LS, but those See ya do look like something worth trying.
Those lil’ vff keychains are super adorable!
Great Review, thanks for all of the info.
Great article. Can’t wait to see and try the Seeya. Love Five Fingers.
Thanks for the article!
Thanks for the article! Can’t wait to try them on myself!
I want every Five Fingers model!
Looks amazing, I wonder if they will be avaliable in Canada or if a Road Trip to Seattle is in order for 2012.
I’ve been meaning to stop at the Seattle store. I really need to get there!
I really like the See Ya. I have always thought the Bikila was a little too much and the See Ya looks just right. Can’t wait until they come out!
Just took my Bikilas and two pair of KSOs out of the washer. I will want to get those SeeYas as soon as they hit the shelves.
The Born to Run store looks so cool, wish we had one here in Maine!
That SeeYa looks mighty tempting.
I’m in for the contest.
Love the look of the new SeeYa’s, can’t wait to get my hands on a pair!
I am excited to try these out. Would lve to win some stuff too.
Those see ya’s look very promising imo. Gotta loves contests too
I’ve been wearing VFF’s for almost 2 years now for whatever duty life calls for. Never wanna put my feet in those coffins (conventional shoes) again!
(If I can’t win a keychain I’d be happy to buy one!)
Dude!!!
Count me in. Can’t wait to be back in the US and see these in person. Okinawans just don’t appreciate a good minimalist shoe.
Love the See Ya’s. Can’t wait to run even faster times with them once I get a pair. Wish I could run my next marathon in January in them. Keep up the great articles on the latest in barefoot shoes.
Thanks for posting photos of the new Vibrams! I’m liking the SeeYa’s.
Love getting to see the new styles & hear your takes on what they are like – cant wait til they are available for purchase!
I need goodies. Especially VFF goodies.
Thanks for the review! Can’t wait to hear how the SeeYa model holds up on asphalt.
Thanks for the reviews. I wanted to get to Seattle for the show, but time and other obligations wouldn’t allow it.
my coach yells at me for wearing vibrams because i usually end up slipping but my feet refuse to wear anything else, now if only they had a cleated version…
Great review. I can’t wait to get a pair of the SeeYa and run in them. Very excited! I hope I win the contest also!
Hey, I like the look and description of the SeeYa model. Thanks for the posting and making goodies available in this contest. Cheers
Must. Have. Spyridon.
The 5fingers swag is cool too.
The new line looks great
Thanks for the review. And the prizes.
cool new shoes – thanks for hosting the contest.
this looks awesome!
Actually cannot wait to try both of these. I was a bit hesitant when I saw some of the pre-pictures, but the review of these two makes me hope that my local Fleet Feet will be selling them so I can give them a try.
Super styles … I like them both and can hardly wait to get them on my feet. Thanks for your reviews and pics.
I’m really stoked about the SeeYa’s! Thanks for the great review.
Count me in! I would love to go for third prize! I own three pairs of Vibram fivefinger shoes and my overlapping toes got into better shapes.
Pick me,pick me! π
Count me in on the contest.
I’m stoked about the new line-up and getting my feet wrapped in some more vff’s. thanks for the great site.
I love VFF!! I hike in Big Bend National Park in my KSO Treks and I’ve never enjoyed a shoe so much. I can’t wait to get my hands on the new styles.
Winner winner chicken dinner!!! I would love to add that book to my collection, I’m in!
Great site. Looking forward to the Seeya.
the seeyas look sick
Im glad you took the time to put together this writeup. I missed the grand opening of the Seattle store, but was able to drop in recently and see what they had. Good people working there. Nice new models for 2012 coming from Vibram as well.
Nice article. Looks like the SeeYa’s might be my next running ‘shoe’.
Count me for a win! π I’m diggin the spyridons and found your reviews a good read and pics a turn-on :p.
I’ve not seen the Seeya’s yet. Def. something I’m going to have to check out. WooHoo!
Great article! Spyridon LS may be my next pair
xx
Really like the seeya. Not to sure about the other. Any ways thanks for the heads up on the new models and count me in
Please pick me! I’m a beginner runner and would love to win anything you have! I only run in my vff’s!
Great store, good assortment and knowledgeable people.
Count me in.
I will be looking forward to adding a new pair to my collection! I’m hoping Vibram does a clinic here in LA…
Count me in!
Sounds great! I love my sprints and want something new that will still be about as thin and flexible…can’t wait ti try the Seeyas!!
I think I would like the seeya. Although I am still very happy with my first gen KSO’s, they just don’t seem to wear out.
Will be checking out the new line for sure.
Dude!!! Awesome. Love the site!!!
Count me in, sounds like a fun day!
I want to win a footprint.
See ya looks neat, not sure about the stripes on the Spyridon.
My son want some VFF’s, but he’s a size 48. We haven’t been able to find them in that size.
Thanks for running this site.
Hey great way to start a new year! (if you win ofcourse)
Love those Spyridon LS! Thought my collection was complete…not so! Love the little prize packs, too! Thanks for the opportunity!
In1
Count me in! Is that BarefootTed’s bare foot under the autograph? I wantz it!!
Looking forward to the SeeYa
So I was told I can’t run anymore because of two complete tears of my left calf. BULL. I have two slipped discs and have to go to physical therapy twice a week just to be able to walk. But I love all my five fingers and have to have a pair of the new Spyridon LS size 42 because I couldn’t help it I started running again and the trail is awaiting. Oh by the way size 42 please.
This is exciting info, thanks so much for sharing!!
What a fun thing to be able to be a part of. Looks like it was fun.
Great post, thank you! The new styles look great but what I’m most curious about is the mesh. I loved running in my classics but would occasionally step on rocks. I’m curious to see if the the new styles would give me more ground feel like the classics but more protection like the Bikila’s.
Thank you for the post! Curious to see if the new styles give me more ground feel than the Bikila but with similar protection. Very curious about the mesh.
Love it! Can’t wait for the new styles! And also hoping for a coaster. Stride on!
The SeeYa’s are pretty great looking. Wouldn’t mind a pair to add to my collection. I miss living in the Seattlearea where the temps are better for running this time of year.
Useful review. Thanks! Have 2 pair of KSOs, one for running (15 months old) and one for everything else (9 months old). I’ll be looking for another pair in the next few months.
If I don’t win, where can I find one of those bumper stickers?
Can’t wait to try them!
Awesome! Can’t wait for the seeya to come out. They look amazing.
I look forward to trying five fingers. I presently train and run and everything else in my merril vibrams which I LOVE. I have already read Born to Run. Very entertaining and informative.
Definitely want a pair of the SeeYas!! π & would LOVE a VFF keychain!
I want to win!!!
i really want to try the see yas. i’m not as excited about the other ones though, they just look to bulky for my taste.
That coaster looks like a ninja star!
Love reading the reviews keep them coming.
I’m looking forward to the SeeYa’s. Look like a replacement or substitute for my KSO’s.
I’m a frequent runner and I just started wearing VFFs bikilas like a month or two. And it changed my whole life. I’m way faster, I feel better, my lower body is stronger, it completely changed the way I run now. No doubt im getting those seeyas! π
Epic win! Please count me in.
I’m hoping my local store gets the SeeYa’s in. They look really good!
Both of these look awesome! I can’t wait to get my hands on them!
Sounds like a great opportunity. I wish there was a store closer to me that focused more on minimalist shoes instead of a just a small section in the back where the more “mainstream” shoe customers dare not go. I have so-so feelings about the SeeYa, but the Spyridon LS has me pretty excited. I think I just found my next trail shoe. Thanks so much for running this site. It’s the go-to place I recommend to anyone with questions about minimalist shoes.
354 comments and counting?! We sure like our Vibram giveaways, don’t we? …Thanks!
I’m all about winning free stuff, especially VFF stuff!!
February seems so far away.
Consider myself entered into the contest!
I’m looking forward to transitioning to the Seeya’s when they become available!
The SeeYa’s look pretty nice. They seem to have a little bit of a simpler look to them, which I like.
I fell in love with VFF stuff recently, so would love to get some more “goodies” from them! Thanks for this contest!
Also, it is my birthday today, does that count for anything? LOL
Seeya’s will replace my bikilas this spring on training runs!
Can’t wait to see the new styles in person! It always seems to take forever for the new styles to get here
Thank you for giving us all this great info! Happy New Year!
Both look pretty cool. Gotta check out the grip on these first to decide if im gonna get one though… Thank you!
Barefoot prize me!!!
Can you pick me, please…. I don’t ever win anything and I love these shoes I even wear them in the snow. Yep I’m that crazy.
Those Seeyas sound interesting!
I love the look of the SeeYa!!!
I can’t wait til these come out! I love the seeya. I also didn’t know that there were stores! Thanks for the giveaway. Hope to win.
Thanks for the review! Can’t wait to try the SeeYa’s.
Been running with VFF KSO’s for a year and half now and loving it… inspired by Born to Run
That’s so exciting that you got to see both of these new shoes! Both look like excellent adaptations from older Vibrams. I’m glad to see the line beginning to evolve.
I think the SeeYa is gonna be the VFF for me.
Come on RNG be good to me π
MOAR WIN
I would love the seeya’s for track races. They look so cool!
Awesome! Looking for my new pair of VFF π
Awesome! Looking for my new pair of VFF π
The SeeYas are kind of cute. The second pair not so much. I love my hot pink Bikilas, red leather Performas, and black Classics. I plan on picking up a pair of Jayas for a cruise in March. Love my FFs!
I am loving the 2012 vffs!!
Really interested in the SeeYa’s…
