While attending a conference in Vegas, cloud computing experts, Adam and Taylor, escaped the Vegas hubbub to try out their Vibram Five Fingers at Red Rock Canyon. After the jump, read Taylor’s description of the day’s events.
to enjoy a ‘light’ afternoon hike.
Unfortunately, we apparently missed the beginning of the “light to moderate” trail we had selected on the map and found ourselves on extremely severe footing in the unmaintained and quite overgrown rocky riverbed some 50m or so from the trail we initially thought we were taking. After over 2 hours of extremely rough terrain, and upon seeking higher ground to determine our approximate location, we found the path we originally believed ourselves to be on. Of course, after such a tactile and engaging hike, we had no interest in returning via the “easy path,” so we ate a quick lunch, snapped a couple of photos, cut through the brush and hiked back out via the same uneven path we hiked in on. 🙂
Suffice it to say that neither of us believe we would have even been able to manage the rough terrain we came in on in any other shoes, and although our feet were a bit sore the next day (from the terrain, not the shoes), it was undoubtedly a hiking experience like no other!
Thanks for sharing the story guys! Check out their Zero to Cloud in 48 Hours website!
If you find yourself in Vegas and want to be adventurous like Taylor and Adam, Red Rock Canyon is a mere 25 minutes from the strip.

Great call on escaping Vegas for Red Rock. Did the same thing while there a few months ago, and got caught in a rare snow storm:
