STEM Footwear has put out preview of their new line of minimal footwear to be available Fall 2011. Here is what Andrew Rademacher, STEM Footwear Inc., President of Sales had to say about STEM’s new shoes:
STEM Footwear uses Primitive Performance Technology using the lastest in high tech materials in a “back-to-the-basics” way. Our secret sole material allows you to naturally feel the ground as nature intended. If you’d like to find out more about our shoes, follow us on facebook and twitter. Also you can pre-order your own pair now at www.stemfootwear.com/shop.html

I like what I see ! Thanks for sharing and looking forward the release
Secret soles huh. Probably keeping me from a pre-order. Site is a little lacking. P.S. you’re links are broken for me.
“Primitive Performance Technology”. Mmm-hmm.
I like the way the shoes look in that little press picture, but going to the site and seeing the “roots” on the heels leaves me wishing they weren’t there. Otherwise, they look pretty neat.
Best of luck and I appreciate all the smaller guys trying to actually make a minimal foot shaped shoe and not the heel dropping, cushioned, pointy toe stuff the big guys will be offering in a few months.
I am however beyond sick of all the hype, unknowns, etc for all these shoes that won’t be out until the spring so I don’t even want to bother thinking about one that won’t be out for a year.
They look “nice” but looks can be deceiving… The heel seems thick, so thick in fact that there is enough room to have a significant gap between it and the mid-sole. Also, they appear to have some toe-spring which is another no-no. We’ll see – I’ll wait for some real reviews.
I really appreciate companies that are striving for a better shoe. I am, however, frustrated by the long lead times. I really need a shoe that is not VFF to train in (my unit doesn’t like VFF) and I need to get them relatively soon. What’s up with the year long lead times on all the cool kicks?
All comments on our designs are appreciated. I promise Stem footwear does not have anywhere near a thick heel, and there is nearly zero toespring. In fact, except for fabric-soled shoes, Stem has the thinnest, flatest, and most flexible sole of the all the shoes that are currently available. 2D designs can be deceiving. You guys will get a 3rd party review shortly.
I’m thining that “thick heel” is just the thin rubber sole wrapping/cupping around the heel for protection. Given the height of the shoe at the heel I don’t see how they could have much heel thickness at all. Looks like a great shoe for work/everyday and at a MUCH better price point than Terra Plana.
If you need a non-split minimal shoe check out softstar shoes. I have a pair of the mocs for work (I must wear white, no white VFFs) They are GREAT! they even custom-made a ugly white super-wide pair for me!
From the photos, I don’t see what makes these shoes “minimal”. They have what looks like a thick heel, and up-turned toe box.
I’ll probably be interested. I just want a casual shoe that I can wear in the office or on a date but still have lots of wiggle room for my toes. Will be interested to see top view and sizing information (I’m a M47 in Classics).
