Alert! – 7/30/10 The all new Black Trek Sport has arrived at CitySports along with a new blue Bikila.

Last week and weekend was the winter market 2010 Outdoor Retailer trade show out in Utah. Vibram apparently had a booth and thanks to Bryon over at iRunFar, we get his scoop — seems Vibram is working on a FiveFingers Trek Sport for fall 2010 (now available here!). The VFF Trek Sport borrows elements from the KSO Trek, the KSO, and the Bikila — it has the Trek’s sole; the KSOs synthetic upper (I assume a major selling point in the Vegan community); and the TPU toe protection, reflective bits, and an “achilles notch” similar to what we’re seeing with the FiveFingers Bikila. Here’s how Bryon put it:

The Vibram FiveFingers Trek Sport will combine the more aggressive outsole of the KSO Trek with and light upper similar to the KSO. While the upper will be light, Vibram has added a bit of TPU on the top of each toe as is found on the forthcoming Bikila model we discussed after last summer’s OR show. The FiveFingers Trek Sport will also feature reflective detailing, an achilles notch to make it more run-worthy, and a removable heel strap.

Re-read that last part — “removable heel strap.” Many VFFers with KSOs have run into breaking heel-straps, a consequence of the “sawing” that can occur where the nylon strap bends on either side of the instep. A common way to fix this problem (mod) has been to tape up the KSO straps — as demonstrated by Jason.

The FiveFingers Sport Trek is expected to retail at $100.

Additionally, we are glimpsing a blue/gray combo of the FiveFingers Bikila. I have no idea if this color combo will be available when the Bikila comes out in the next couple months or later. Time will tell. Get it now!

So another year and another version of VFFs to ponder. It’s becoming increasingly complicated for VFF fans to determine which Five Fingers will best suit their needs.

I say if you’re new to VFFs, keep it simple. Go KSO or Classic first. You’ll have plenty of time to flesh out your line-up in time. Or just try and get them all like Shawn!

What say ye, fans?

Again, thanks to Bryon for allowing me to share this on BirthdayShoes!

So glad they finally release a vegan friendly version of the trek! I want to do my Ultra, the McNaughton 100 in treks but I also don’t want to wear dead kangaroos around :[

Thanks Vibram!

What I really needed this winter was a KSO Trek Flow model for traction. Running in Flows this winter, but have had to wait until some of the snow melted before I could get out there (this is after the plows had done their bit).

I don’t know if I’ll ever actually get a pair of Bikilas, at no point while running in my KSOs have I thought, “These would be perfect if only they had a thread, cuff, etc.” My opinion might change depending on the experience of other forum member. That and me really loving V5Fs. But as far as “need” – definitely not there yet.

oh man – vibram keeps the hits coming these look way cool – doing my first race in treks on 2/7 – i like the removable strap idea

They already have half a dozen options for vegans. They need some more for people who don’t like synthetic. Kangaroo bikilas and a moc with an outdoor sole.

Any more word on these? Are they still talking about seeing them in the fall, or have they maybe pushed them back due to the HUGE Bikila craze?

Also, did anyone notice that the blue one has the strap going from outer to inner (like the Bikila) and the red one has the strap going from inside to outside (like the KSO)? What gives?

I definately like the KSO style strap better.

EVERY time I think ‘hmmm, I wish they made _______’, they come out with them. I wished for the Bikila’s, now I have 2 pair. I wished for the Trek to be vegan, and it will be vegan. Feels like the Windows 7 commercial… The VFF’s totally changed my running. I have not gone one week running less than 4 days a week since I got my first pair of VFF’s and, before these ‘shoes’, I grumbled before every run. Now, I never grumble. The dogs and I are out every morning at 6:30 am. and loving it! THANK YOU VFF! Thanks to Birthday Shoes inventory alerts, too!

I walked into city sports today expecting the regular lineup of five fingers only to find the new trek sport! These are exactly what I was looking for! A month ago I had hiked MT. Washington with my KSO’s only to find that they don’t have enough sole. The hike was a slow experience due to the thin sole. Overall not too enjoyable except for the amazing views! Now, after this hike I realized why my dad recommended the TREKs for hiking and trail running. They offer just enough extra sole thickness and grip that really helps with the rigors of long day hikes and backpacking. The only problem I had with the original TREKs was the kangaroo skin exterior. Hiking, for me atleast, always includes water or mud and I don’t want an exterior that wouldn’t do well in those conditions. Well, the KSO exterior combined with the TREK sole makes for the perfect any-condition trail/hiking minimalist shoe! Thank you Vibram! I want to get out on the mountains as soon as possible to try these out!

i want those off white trek sports, i bought the black ones but want the other color as well, how long are we to wait?

I have 3 pairs of VFFs. a pair of 3 year old classics, treks and now the Treksports. I just wanted to mention, at least for me, the TrekSports I got are almost too tight to wear, while my treks and classics fit perfect. Of course I just got them 5 hours ago… maybe they will give a little in the next few days

I already have a pair of VFF Sprints for everyday use and KSOs for running. I am looking for a cold weather option in Montreal for the snow and wet weather this coming winter. Which would be better for everyday use and running, the Flows or the KSO Trek for warmth and water resistance? Unfortunately the KSO Trek Tek is only available in Europe. Can someone give me a recommendation please?
